NY chicken lover!!!!

Butter is a shy chick ...at the bottom of the pecking order ...
I hand feed her some of the time if her crop is empty
I usually find her roosting at odd places at night or alone most of the day
This was tonight

. I want to get a heritage breed or something neat..next spring...But I don't know what kind to get I am thinking Ameracauna, but I don't want to get screwed getting EEs.
it seems like Americana s are more solid colors ..EEs are hybrid so you get a mix of all different color patterns with EE
Hybrid are usually good layers also

It's not Friday yet, but I would like to share another photo. This Ameraucana chick is so friendly and sweet. It loves my hand nest.

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts & offers of roos. I'm going to pass on all offers - it seems that Boskelli roosters have a short life span!

As I said, we didn't really want a roo but he was turning out to be a good specimen. C'est la vie etc.
Still have the Millie roos' tho'

Don't think they would stand a chance against predators.....

Unless they stop them with pure cuteness

But since they are so little - once they learn to fly - they can usually get away by flying better than bigger chickens. My millies used to fly into a maple tree - first branch about 6 feet off the ground - and then branch hop up to the top !!!! So they were so far up there - I nearly had a heart attack ... no fox could get them ! and they were doing that just for fun.

Haha! You're right about them being cute - they just hop up onto my lap whenever. They are still 'picking out' their coop. I had made the new one for them and the RIRs'. They went to bed with the' old ladies' the other night and the RIRs' last night.

HA HA Told you they were fearless around the "big" birds. Let them have their way and they will RUN the place.

I have 7 large fowl cochin eggs set aside if anyone wants them to hatch. I'm done hatching for the year and I really don't want to wash/eat them. The hen(a mottled cochin) just started laying again after being broody, the roo is a frizzle cochin.

i thought of ranchers Rant as defending chickens ..non chicken people are quick to say chickens are noisy ...get rid of them ..
how many people say " your dog barks get rid of it "
Dogs and other animals can be noisy tooo ...My cat can be obnoxiously loud ...but not loud enough for the neighbors to hear..thank goodness
he drove my family nuts when I was away for a couple of days
Here he is ..following me today on my walk ...not much traffic here right before dark ...on a dead end road

I

I should have explained or did I?

There is a thing about keeping chickens in the paper. Specifically East Syracuse the village area I think.

When the town gets a complaints about a dog barking, they don't pass an ordinance banning ALL dogs do they?

What about when you've got crazy cat people with a house full of cats? Do they ban all cats? Heck they don't even limit how many cats a person can have.

Now as a former letter carrier, I've delivered mail to a house that had multiple Pomerianians. ( you know what I mean) Yip!yip!yip! all the way. Yet the town of Onondaga didn't ban dogs did they?

Once called the city of Syracuse, because of a lady who's house smelled real bad from cats and got told it's her house we can't do anything. They didn't ban all cats did they?

Now according to the paper they've received complaints. Well why not deal with it like they would dogs or cats. On a case by case basis.

Not everyone has a stinky coop. Right.

So that was my rant. I don't really dislike cats or dogs. What I dislike is folks who don't properly care for their cats or dogs or chickens or goats or horses or CHILDREN. If you don't know how to care for them then for heavens sake learn!

I still love ya all ,

Rancher

(Heck I've paid better than the minimum wage for coop cleaning help when I needed it. Four hours/about $30 is worth it to me. )
