NY chicken lover!!!!

Well... spent the afternoon at the fair ...ran into no one I knew
sad.png

There were Birds at the fair... Predators ..Some of them were injured permanently
I think it was a golden eagle.. this one couldnt fly ...was huge
Egyptian Vulture
owl
Red tailed hawk ?
Falcon ?

I think it was the falcon that gave the handler eye contact ..and she gave it back ...which I took as intelligence from the bird
Only chicken I saw ....

I posted this in injured chicken forum but I thought I'd try NY also.. I have a very sick chicken. She has little to no appetite does not drink much and is as light as a feather. I am syringe feeding her scrambled eggs and yogurt. She does peck every now and then in between my syringe feedings. I did put electrolytes in her water, she takes a few sips, but not much. When I syringe fed her scrambled eggs, her stomach gurgled a lot. Her poop is watery and whitish clear. She has very low energy and just stands. I am really not sure what else I can do to help her feel better, or a medication to give her. I'm not sure if I should take her to the vet who is 1.5 hours away? Any help would be appreciated .
Sorry to read about ur sick chicken. Sounds like ur doing everything u can. Sometimes there isn't much left to do. If u have a vet that knows chickens, definitely give them a call. Worst case they can't help u over the phone. A vet at Cornell talked me thru a cracked beak repair on my goose. Sometimes they have extra tricks up their sleeves. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes for my kitty! She had to stay overnight, but they got her fever down and x-rayed her and it looks like an abscess in her jaw, which is much better than a tumor, which was the other possibility. They pulled some bad teeth that they think caused it, and she's on antibiotics. She had to stay the night for observation, but her temperature is almost back down to normal, a huge improvement over 105, and they said she's already acting better.

Glad to read ur cat is doing better. Many wishes for her swift recovery!

Pyxis, glad your kitty is better! Lisa, I'm sorry to hear about your chicken. Poor sweet girl!

We got back from The Fair too. We weren't even going because I was boycotting the lack of chickens this year. What a sad situation for the 4-H kids and all the small family farms/homesteads. We saw the chicks and you couldn't even handle them! Sad sort as it's such an education for kids. I'm glad our little girl and any child or adult that will walk through our door will get quite the education when they're here. I still need to read a bit more though I'm sure It will be more of a hands on learning experience for us. Was anyone sad to see no chickens in the poultry area? I couldn't walk in. I could see from walking by that it was very empty even with the bunnies. The Fair just wasn't the same for us this year.

This is great news! Hope she continues to progress!

Sucks about the chickens at the Fair. I am not even interested in going this year...

I really hope the organizers are using this year to good use in re-organizing the displays a bit better.
I found id hard to get info on certain chickens - no info/contact and many of the cages looking scruffy and ill cared for. I think it needs a bit of a Spring clean IMHO,
