NY chicken lover!!!!

Does anyone else have an animal with diabetes? My cat just developed it. I really don't mind giving him insulin (I'd make a pretty bad vet student if giving injections bothered me, lol) but now he also needs to go back to the vet every week to get his blood tested, at least until we get his insolent dosage worked out. At least he doesn't seem to mind me sticking him with a needle.
Yes, I have a 16-year old cat who has been diabetic for 9 years. My vet calls him the miracle kitty and always asks me what I am doing to keep him going. Almost lost him a couple of times with liver and kidney problems and he is almost blind from cataracts, but still enjoying his life. He gets two shots a day.

Thank you both! Yes, he was having the same symptoms, completely lethargic, peeing and drinking like crazy, but losing weight instead of gaining it. I thought it was either his kidneys, which there is really nothing to do about, or diabetes. Luckily it turned out to be diabetes - not a good thing, but the better of those two options. The vet started him at one unit once a day, so we'll see where it goes from here. He's a trooper - he's 13 and just developed this. About two years ago he had to have one of his back legs amputated. No one else will give him his injection, so it's all on me. Not sure I can find someone who'd be willing to do it if I had to go away. I might be able to talk my dad into doing it if he only had to do it for a day or two.

We're really hoping it hasn't been caused by a tumor in his pancreas (something the vet suggested as a possibility), and that he takes to the treatment well, being as old as he is. He already seems to be doing better today, though.

Hmmm....I don't think its a wampus cat. Just...nope...probably not, lol.

I haven't seen any chipmunks out this way...not in our property...and for that matter, neither have we seen squirrels. Our land is kind of odd...it's near woods and a swamp, but...far enough away that we don't really see much in the way of woodland creatures. Occasional skunk, possum, raccoon, loads of woodchucks (but they're all asleep now).

I'm going with a rat. Either that, or our mice out there are pretty adventurous. I HAVE seen some of the mice tunneling in another part of the coop, but not to this extent.

I need a Go-Pro or a trail cam to stick out there. Alas...funding is limited and so that's not happening, lol.

I hope it works well for him!!

My cat now has diabeties also. It is possible to reverse it in some cases with diet change. Basically only canned food high protien high fat low carbs. You can test your cats insulin level yourself along the edge of the ear and it does not bother the cat. You can see videos on YouTube. I chose to change my cats diet and not treat with insulin. I can not guarantee when my cat will come out or be in to eat, what he eats elseware if anything, if I will be home to feed him at certain times on a regular basis. Because of this I was more afraid of lows. He is doing better. He has weakened back legs but they did get somewhat better. I still catch him eating some of the dogs dry food every now and then. Good luck with your cat. I have no problem giving him the insulin by injection it was just my choice after much research.

Re-homed three bantam roosters today. First time chickens have gone out instead of in. Candled my eggs at six days in about 75% showed noticeable growth. (First timer) went to pull the rest and broke open the first one to have a look and it had healthy growth. Oops, put them all back in, try again in afew days.

Sorry about the cat Py, DD and hers took Pinkypie which is good since I'm allergic to cats. Of course like Silkies I wouldn't be mean to one.

I use an inhaler more since I've been sick. Still I'm hopeful this year will be better than times past.

I wonder if my doctor is a quack telling me to stay away from the chickens.

How am I supposed to do that?

He might be ? though most people dont understand our chicken obsession ..
I highly doubt that the chickens made you sick ....but maybe he is afraid they will .
Im sure you have immunity's to anything they might be carrying ...
People exposed to dirt ...have more immunitys than those not
