what are those?!? They are cute.
They're roman tufted goslings

Adorable! Love their little head tufts!
I am so happy they have nice tufts! Hopefully all their offspring will inherit them.

Are the tufts a trait that isn't always passed down? Tufts sure are cute!
I have dibs on the biggest tuffed babies from this group !!!![]()
not afraid of a Band but my one roo is not a fan of my son's. He is ok with people just not the 3 boys. I also have 1 BA hen that hides every time a semi drives down my road. Which is funny as can be as we have 4 that live on this road. So, while I sit with my girls every day after work, I pour some beer and turn on the country station......does anyone else have chickens that are deathly afraid of the Zac Brown Band?? Doesn't matter which song, it's weird as heck.
They can vary in size. Unlike crested ducks where the trait is actually caused by a hole in the skull (which is why it's so dangerous to have female crested ducks with a drake and why it often causes neurological issues and death, and why you can't breed two crested ducks together without a lot of the embryos dying during incubation) the tufts are just caused by a ball of skin on the top of the head. The larger the ball, the larger the tuftFor example Lacie, my very first roman tufted, doesn't have a very large tuft:

But when she breeds with the little gander I have with the larger tuft, I'm hoping her offspring will have more prominent tufts than she does.
