NY chicken lover!!!!

Hey guys. Long time no see.

We've finally started venturing into the realm of rooster keeping. Wish us luck.

We also tried our luck with getting four pullets... whom three of turned out to be cockerels. Oh well. They're getting along with the flock so far - the three are all part Silkie, and we went for Silkies to have a higher chance of roosters being able to coexist.

Tiffany, where are you located? We are interested in one Silkie Rooster. We are located in Sauquoit, NY. Thanks Aria

So, we're located in Oswego if Tiffany's too far or has already found someone else (or if anyone else is checking this out who's looking for Silkies). We have a purebred white Silkie pair, male and female, who are bonded, six months old, and docile. Currently, they go by Watson and Holmes (Holmes being the rooster). We're open to trading for confirmed hens, especially Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, or any other unique egg types, though others will also be considered.

Given some time, they'll probably integrate into our flock better, but we don't like splitting up bonded chickens (that's how we ended up with four "pullets") and our current situation needs a little more hen and a little less rooster.

If anyone lives in the Lockport area, I was just in TractorSupply and they have chicks, around a hundred or more and they are only .50 cents each...
It was kinda hard to walk out of there with out getting any. especially with the wife saying "come on, we can get 10 more":th

Ugg, Today I spent 3hours raking maple leaves and put them in the coop. Then sitting down with my chickens I found 2 of my paint Silkie pullets are infested with lice or mites (they are grey in color). Tomorrow I'm going to tsc and get permethrin 10 spray and powder to apply to chickens. Do I need to remove all the leaves or can I put down the powder under the leaves. I also have 2 pales of straw stored in the corner are those no good too?

Lice are bad this year - I just found some on my birds too. I'm going to add permethrin to their dust bathing area and also put some Ivermectin on them. Ivermectin is great for lice and kills them quick.

You can put it under the leaves ...spray everyone ..under the top neck Feathers and Vents and spray the roosts ...early so they are dry when they roost on them .
You could spray the straw also . I used Cat shampoo diluted ..sprayed on them and roosts and nest boxes ..worked great ..didnt remove bedding
