NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi, I am in Greene county, near Ulster county line. I have a salmon faverolle trio, 3 mixed banties, (2 hens and a roo) and a white crested black polish rooster, along with 6 auracana pullets, 2 - 2week old fav chicks and a week old polish chick. Due to space constraints and my DH not wanting to build separate facilities, I find myself in need of re-homing some birds. We made the tough decision to find new homes for the banties and the polish rooster. They have always been together, they were our first chickens, and my kids are attached to them, but the fav rooster and the polish rooster don't get along. They are barely a year old, the roosters are just getting spurs. The polish, Charley, is super friendly to people and loves to be picked up and petted. He is very curious and will gently peck dangling zipper pulls or wiggling fingers. I doesn't hurt, in fact my kids actually get a kick out of it, lol. The hens faithfully lay a egg each every day. They are not free-range here due to my fear of predators (though we have seen no evidence yet) and because of a neighbor's aggressive rooster, who will come across the street to fight with my roos. You can see a picture of them on my home page here. If any one knows some one who could give them a safe home, please contact me, either in this forum or pm me. We will miss them as they are so friendly, but sometimes, practicality wins out. Thanks for reading this and considering it.

I wouldn't care so much about roos if I could "do" them up myself. I do have to many hens though and am about to post "free" chicks. No one willing to pay a buck each but I'll probably get plenty of hits for free chicks. Next year I'll use more sense in hatching. I hate to break broodies but can't deal with to many chicks. I'll also be more selective of the eggs I hatch. Chicks are alot easier to hatch than I thought.

Anyone want free chicks?

look what I started... we all seem to have the same issues. too many chicks/roo's! it's the addiction of fuzzy butts, i cringe when I think of another broody..lol. Good thing my DH has been talkin up makin the runs bigger.

My chicks have plenty of run space it's the coop space. Plus it's like chocalate the more you have the more you want and it's an endless cycle. You would think with world hunger we could ship all our extras over seas to feed the world. To bad the Gov won't sponser a processing plant to take our over flow and send them overseas.

If anyone from rochester area wants to go to the chickenstock (that rancher hicks is thinkin bout gettin together) I am willing to drive and take passengers. I will have to drive thru rochester to get there, so I could scoop anyone from leroy to victor. just a thought

Hello madsenaccord!!!!
Welcome to the wonderful(but addictive...smile) world of chickens....and welcome to the NY Forum!!! I don't have any Javas(yet)..... but they're definitely on my wish list. They're a critically endangered breed.....I try to keep several extremely rare breeds. Javas are the second oldest American breed (Dominiques are the oldest). I'd love to get some Mottled Javas...if not this year next . They are docile, hardy and beautiful.
I hope to one day meet you at a tailgate sale in Highland.
Kathy

I can't get my husband to get me what I need, and yesterday, he comes home with a new Rototiller??? We won't mention the two he already killed ( or the three lawn mowers) becuase he leaves them outside all winter and never maintains it! Anyone handy wanna trade me a cabinet bator for a riding lawnmower? A chicken coop?

What kind of chicks? LOL

I think there is an auction in Bridgeport week after next, why don't you take the extra stuff there? Something is better than nothing!

I'm probably going to bring all my extras there, I was going to go to the rabbit show in Ithaca, but no one is going to be buying culls, not that I have that many. Just need to free up some cage space!

I wish there was something closer to me, everything is like two hours away, so then I have to pay for all that gas to get there! I have a garage (and basement) full of stuff I need to get rid of, I tried yard sales and the flea market last year and sold some, but man, I think the stuff bred over the winter, cuz you can barely move down there!

Bridgeport is a sliding scale, starts at 30%, ouch. Village auction this year decided to do a buyers premium, I know a lot of folks were not happy about that!

I need to cut back though, they're eating me out of house and home! I have Ameraucana eggs if anyone needs any? I just filled one bator and I have another dozen here and haven't even collected yet today. I might have to try auctioning some of them I guess. I just hate shipping eggs!
