You know, I always forget which color is which, and I have to go look at my males to remember! Duh. I'm thinking the females have more white and the males more rust? Of course, if you got whites, then you're out of luck on color sexing! I thought whites were a good idea, until I realized how much longer I would have to grow them out!
If you flip them over (yeah, they'll spaz!) and kinda smoosh their "private parts" the boys will reward you with foamy stuff (yeah, it is what you think it is!) I'm sure there is a more accurate desription on the Quail forum then smoosh their parts!
The girls should almost be laying, I'm finding some eggs in my one tub of jrs now. I was hoping for a nice large male to swap out the one male in my pen. Anyone got a really large male in another color to trade for a hen?
Don't feel bad on the duck eggs, I had six dozen I killed this week! I do think they were old, since some of them exploded after less than a week! I didn't crack open the rest yet, some of them looked partially developed? The broodies had a dozen under them, and either they all rotted, or someone ate their eggs when they would get up. They had two left yesterday, and today they were gone. I think the meat chickens ate them, or the Barred Rock!
I'd have to go read up on Crested Genetics, aren;t you supposed to breed Crested to non crested? Something about fatal genes or something? I wonder if your duck will cary the gene for it though? I need to go read up, I have a Crested Cayuga Drake. Can you show Crested Cayugas? Probably not, but its awfully cute. The best other Cayuga Drake is the one thats lame, of course. I can;t see anything wrong with its leg that I can tell.
I sent the ancient Buff Drake home with the people who bought the other ducks today. I've had him here for well over a month, and the girls don't like him. He never bathes, and he won't breed! They can pick one of the young drakes I guess. They bought my Runner ducks too.
I have to put down a Rex kit tomorrow though, its missing one of its hind legs, and it was doing okay, but tonight I noticed its also messed up one of its front legs. I really hate culling small fuzzy things.
