NY chicken lover!!!!

I don't know what everyone is splitting but I might be interested. Send me a pm please.

tgrlily - considering what jody has done and these are not splits I considered $20 fair. I'm right down the road if you have something you think I'd like contact me. I have no desire to get into any competition. I have Dels and the Ameraucana roo they are all I need. I won't be breeding Amer's just EE's to get colored eggs. Anything I have that looks lavender will be an EE not a Amer.

Everyone else - I have no problem with hatchery stock for breeds I don't breed. I like to keep a variety in the yard. If a person can live with that , that's fine, just as long as they understand what they're getting. As always I trade if anyone is up for that.

Wish you all the best

Ahhhh... you're just selling the ones you get from Jody & not planning on breeding them? I must've misunderstood. I was under the impression we'd both be breeding Lavender Orps. Our F1 lavs look amazing & $20 is what we were planning on pricing with the splits being less.

I have a few pure lavender orp chicks (my 2nd generation) cheeping in the brooder right now with some splits, a few Dorkings plus lav, white & my project Ameraucanas. I may finally be getting better at hatching!

Is your Ameraucana roo lavender? Have you thought about trying to make some coronation colored Delawares or Amers? Just a thought...lol.

No you didn't misunderstand. I don't plan on selling the ones I get from Jody, but of course since they are not going to be sexed there may be an extra roo. I've ordered 4 lavs, 2 Bo and 2 blaks. However at $20 a chick for the Lavs, I won't be giving the extra roo away either. But I do want to breed for replacements when the time comes.
I can't keep every breed I'd like but I prefer Delawares and BO's or Orpingtons to Wyandottes. The lavender EE I have looks like an Ameraucana but in truth isn't pure and I wouldn't present her that way. If I crossed her to Sissy boy I couldn't in good conscience present their chciks as pure no matter how much they will look pure. It's just not that important to me.

Why I said I'd trade is because I can't replace everything in the mixed flock of hens. That said I know what it costs to breed and all that so I don't mind paying $5 a chick if I have to. I paid $10 for the CM's I have in Amsterdam, but they were a few weeks old too. I would prefer to buy local from NY friends than a hatchery that may be selling whatever as pure.

Heck I had 3 SLW and 3 Aussies I gave away cuz they just didn't fit. Poor things were never going grow back their feathers here. I just wish I could find someone to either take the extra roos as they are sexed or who processes on a regular basis.

Right now I have a CM that I'm fighting to keep from brooding but she is insistent. With Trylin I got eggs from her with the understanding she took the chicks when they hatched. I did give her one of my eggs so she'd at least have a chick to mother. I make the same offer to anyone else. If she is in fact broody. Last year I had two that hatched out a bunch of BR eggs i got at the auction and then sold them for $1 ea. I just can't see wasting a month of sitting for one or two chicks.

tgrlilly- you got a couple of eggs for sale if she is broody? Or that you'd like hatched. I've got plenty of Del chicks and both frizzles are not in service right now. One has been hatching eggs for more than a month. She's got one left and hopefully that is due soon. I never knew broody hens were so common. Everything I'd read until I got them was that it wasn't.

Take care

Oh sure cuz I have so much room for more chickens! Do you see more out buildings on this property? Lord have mercy I can barely take care of what I've got! This ain't TX where they freak over an inch of snow! Or OR where they can leave the chickens in the run 24/7!

You won't think it's so funny when you find a box of leftover chicks in your coop!

I won't say what you and tgrlily can do with that project!

So... I might be ordering Chocolate Orps from Greenfire in the fall. Otherwise, I'd love to help Tim make coronation Dels. Hubby said I'd have to give up a breed or color to get them. Guess he's getting tired of building me coops & breeding pens. Been keeping my eye out for paint silkies too.
