It's probably a good thing that I don't currently have an incubator, as I'd be tempted to set some of my Leghorn's eggs to see if they're fertile (she continues to be my big boy's favorite girl - he moons about after her constantly), and to see what a White Leghorn/SS cross looks like.

Hey, gang - let me ask you for a tiny favor. I had a job interview Wednesday for a staff pharmacist position at Express Scripts in Troy. As pharmacy benefit management companies don't mess around, they're making their hiring decisions and contacting the candidates either way today (Friday - yes, it is indeed 2 AM, because I'm an owl by nature). I came out of the interview feeling that it went well, although of course you never know. The big boss was interested in one of my degrees (my MS) because it's from a University of Florida distance program, and actually said, "I'd love to hear more about that program sometime soon, as it sounds really cool - you'll have to tell me all about it," which struck me as a good sign. She also made a couple of other comments that strongly suggested that she had put me into the "keeper" category. So, if you could keep your fingers crossed for me, I'd appreciate it! I'd love to get this job, as it would be infinitely less stressful than my current retail position at an absolutely crazy-busy chain pharmacy. Improved quality of life? Yes, please!

Good luck to you! I worked for NRX (then turned into MedCo, then ???)for a few years-a loooong time ago. Mail order is great. Any news yet?

Are they telling you to get rid of the chickens? If they aren't, then let it go, cuz public employees don't like to be bothered with thinking or serving the public. If they are then tell them to give you a permit or leave you alone.

Personally? I'd find some legal web site and print up a permit for myself and flash it if they come knocking....telling them "it's the best the office of public chickens could do for me"

Another thought might be to call the "Dog Catcher" and see if they can point you in the right direction.

The thing is, I don't have chickens yet and I want to do it on the up and up. I'd hate to invest all the money and time in a good set-up only for someone to see them, run to the town, and be forced to give up my new chickens and waste my coop and run... I don't trust all my neighbors not to run to the city if they see a "farm animal" in my backyard.... I think most would be ok if the chickens are not a nuisance, but some people would freak out on the principal of it without taking a moment to think if they're actually bothered (smell, noise, etc) by their presence.

Before I got chickens I checked for codes and zoning. I even called the town and was told we were Agricultural restricted. Meaning I can only sell what I grow on my land.

I suggest you get a copy of the code and print it out. Then I suggest you get a copy of the zoning law for your street. Then I suggest you get yourself some chickens.

I wish you well,

Rancher

You can say they are not farm animals. they are pets. I would also get chickens that are quiet. My buckeyes are loud and talkative. I love them but would not recommend them with neighbors close by.(unless you could bribe them by keeping them in eggs!!

I don't like waiting! I hope they hurry up!

I was/am part of the St. Peter's Merger. My "department" was absorbed by another part of the merger....It took almost 2 months to get a letter from them "hiring" me. Talk about waiting. Verbally they told me they wanted me, but for it to become official at the management level it took 2 months. So....we'll all have our fingers crossed for a long time for you Heni...but I know you will get the job. How could they not want a chicken lover in their midst?

Hey, I didn't know you worked for St. Peters.. So do I.

My department isn't affected much by the merger, at least not yet. We're kind of a 'niche' department (the outpatient under/uninsured clinic).

Henicillin: Hope you get the job.

CautiousVenturer: Hope you can resolve your permit problems and get some beautiful birds! What kinds are you thinking of? And by the way

Doesn't everyone work for St. Peter.

I am a HHA (Home Health Aide). I love my job. I hate what the merger is doing to our little group of 25 aides...mixing us up with the 90+ that the Eddy Visiting Nurses had AND the 35+ that Seton Health added when they merged. I am actively looking to go back to a smaller department or floor where everyone knows everyone....Thinking maybe the Assisted Living (McCauly) on South Manning.

What location do you work at?

Back to chickens. I have 2 dozen eggs in my fridge. Most of them Green/Olive. ALL of them laid by my hens. I love my girls.

I never get 2 green ones on the same day, so I think I have an egg laying machine out there. BUT one of them could be from the Maran....who might not be 100% Maran, cuz nothing else I bought from that breeder turned out to be what it was supposed to be. (Well, almost nothing, the Ameraucanas are "as advertised", I just didn't realize that the lavs I coveted weren't LF. My bad for not doing my homework)
