Everyone is MUCH happier now that there are not 27 birds in the space for 18.

This weekend is the Gathering for like minded folk at Tab's....come one, come all. We had a blast last year and it was cut short by Irene. (And I don't mean Aunt Irene, I mean the hurricane) The weather is supposed to be wonderful, the company great, the food tasty and chinese auction is shaping up to be great.

Hope to see you all there.

Hen--good for you taking a class and learning to shoot! All women should learn to shoot and handle guns.
Oh, I know how to shoot and how to treat firearms - I actually took shooting sports as a college phys-ed class and aced it, and my dad taught me well. I've never had a hunting license, though, so in NYS a course is mandatory before they'll issue one. Besides, I want to show up my husband.

I just had to share the antics of my 15 week old hens today. I am a newbie so their antics amuse me when they out *free ranging* while I am outside doing yard work in the evenings :)

Apparently my biggest hen felt the need to try sitting on the makeshift fencing that blocks the dogs from being up close to their pen. They were hopping all over today....one even ended up on top of the hen house but I didn't have my phone on me by then. They keep eyeing up the garden you see in the background but haven't quite figured out all they need to do id fly over the short fence (which is lower than the one she is sitting on now lol)

I have decided that hen antics is the best entertainment :)

Yeah, Chick TV is great, isn't it?

Ugh, so much for me looking/feeling my best this weekend at the get together. For the past week I have been suffering with a very sore throat and nasal drip. Couple days ago I decided to treat it as allergies, which I normally never have but with the weird weather, thought it was worth a try. Forgot that allergy meds don't allow me to sleep. Went to the doc yesterday to rule out sinus infection which is commonly what I get. She stated allergies, try a shorter time allergy med (6-12 hour compared to 24 hr). Took 1/2 of a 4 hour dose at 6pm after the 24hr wore out. Past 2 nights I slept no more than 4 hours each.

It is now 3:30am, been up the last hour, I only slept 4 hrs again. And lucky me, I woke up with pinkeye. Hubby had it 2 weeks ago, so figured we made it past without sharing. Nope. At least he had a whole extra brand new bottle of the eye drops to treat pinkeye. But now have to give up my contacts for the duration of treatment.

With daycare being closed for the 3.5 weeks, I have been taking mon-wed off, only working thurs-fri, and really really need to go to work to get stuff done. Now I have a brand new case of pinkeye, sleep deprived, sore throat, runny nose.....should I even bother going to work?

Don't worry, the potato salad hubby makes. May skip the zucchini bread though and just rest more, unless hubby is feeling like Betty Crocker. Think he can handle packing the condiments and punch stuff. And fruit dip is mixing 2 ingredients together, he can handle that.
And can someone tell me why there is a rooster crowing at 3:30 in the morning?!?!?!

Morning all! Shaping up to be a nice day so it should be a good trip to take Sam to his new chicken momma. Yesterday he and his brother Frodo got into it with Little Man and managed to separate him from Stripe, While Frodo was fighting with Little Man, Sam ran down Stripe and tried to mount her. I say try because about the time he stepped onto her back I lifted him up and held him midair. Needless to say, the randy boys were put back in their coop so Little Man and Stripe could continue freeranging without moletation. I had a chat with Sam about proper wooing etiquette. I told him that some dinner, a nice dance and some sweet talk would go a whole lot farther than just grab and jump. Anyways, he will have his own ladies where he is going. I am currently on the hunt for a couple of ladies for the boys. If anyone has light blue or splash pullets available from good lines, let me know.

Olaf and Hane seem to be settled down into rooster duties now that their brothers are in the freezer. They seem to be getting along so far and Olaf has established himself as the head roo, even though he is a bit smaller than Hane. He has a beautiful red color to him for a rir and I am hoping he passes it on to his offspring. The pullets are up to 7 laying now out of 19, which is pretty good.

Sorry to hear you are ill, lap and java. Lots of that going around. Sudafed is a hot seller right now at the pharm. Wish I could go meet everyone at tabs but I am working. Sunday I am going to the Ductchess Co Fair with a friend and we will spend considerable time in the poultry barn looking at the cheeps. Maybe I can find a couple girls there.

Hen, I can never show up my husband. He is a crack shot and wins most of the competitions he enters. I do enjoy shooting though (especially tree rats!).

Enjoy the day all!
