The swap will be at the street gate parking lot on nov 11 from 11am to 3pm.

I'm beginning to think my dachshund will not go outside because he knows my Roo is out there!

He's crate trained so the first thing we do in the morning when we wake up and let him out of his crate is let him outside - obviously because he is a small dog and has a small bladder. He has never had an accident in the house and could seriously go all day without having to go out. However, it is rather unusual for him to refuse to go outside in the morning when I let him out of his crate. So he never went this morning, I put him back in his crate again before we left to go run some errands, came home, let him out of the crate, told him "outside" and he turned again in the opposite direction of the door. WTH?!? How can this dog NOT have to go out. It's going on 2 o'clock! It's so nasty out again today, sooo foggy, couldn't see two feet in front of me on the road today. I don't want to be outside, but here I am out there, picking up the garbage pails, checking the mail and he's just sitting there staring at me, shaking (I'm hoping it's be cause he was cold and not scared to death! LOL ) and he came right back inside with me. I REALLY don't want to get rid of this roo but I'm beginning to think that soon I will have no choice.

Hi all! We are outside Rochester in Wayne County. New to Chix in April and are wayyy in love. Have Silkies, Barred, Americauna, Faverolle, Silver Laced and Reds. (apologizing for my spelling!) Question for you all, we have a large water feeder that hangs in the coop, how do you all prevent the nasty stillness in this? Should I try water additive if I am raining organic free range?

First of all welcome!! I would only add things that qualify as organic in anything that is to be ingested. Organic ACV is an excellent choice1 I will also scrub buckets once aweek with a little bleach to help keep bacteria down. Be sure to change water every day.

Evening all. Long days at work and crappy weather make for some very unhappy chickens as they are locked up all day. Makes for an unhappy chickenmomma as well. Sunday a bear ran by and didnt stop for chicken dinner which is good cause they were all out freeranging. Havent seen the hawk or the falcon but I am guessing they are still around hoping for a freebie. No such luck. I did give my older silkie group a bath on monday and lets just say wow, what an experience. The whole bath thing took them and I a bit to get used to as to how to hold them and wash them etc. The clipping of nail was interesting since I was by myself and they were keen on me clipping them. I got them done though. They like the whole blowdry part probably because the warm air felt good. I clipped around their eyes and their bums as I found a few bum issues with my roo and one hen. Hopefully their butts will stay cleaner. I think they feel better all clean and trimmed. They seem happier. Now I have to do the other 5. I will not, however, do the terrorists or the hens unless necessary. I will trim nails though as I can see how long nails can be a problem and the roos have spurs that need trimming. I really need to trim my silkies spurs down more but I will do that in a few days. I figure one day of trauma is enough!

Off to the town meeting tonight to see what comes of the chicken complaint. I am hoping for the best. I will post after we get back as to what happened.

Okay, the whole chicken issue has been pushed back to November. Good Lord, what a process just to get stuff done! At least a few people showed up tonight disgusted with the complaint about the chickens so that bodes well! Night all!

Where are you? I'm in Canandaigua. I am in the process of switching to nipple waterers because I am SO SICK of nasty, poopy water. I just got them in the mail today. Ask me again next week! lol I keep hearing that they are awesome and the water stays nice and clean since it is not in contact with the chickens.

UGH! This rooster is driving me crazy! Ok so I've been trying to capture him for the past hour or so. I was outside cleaning the coops and rabbit hutch out and he spooked my daughter again. Of course I told her to turn around and give him a boot and she couldn't this time. I think she felt bad. So I thought, maybe I'll catch him, put him in his own "pen" until I decide to what to do with him and see how he does on his own. He is IMPOSSIBLE to catch! I think I'm going to have to get him first thing in the morning or even at night when he goes back into the coop. I'm just afraid to grab him head on. Maybe what I can do is get a crate or something, place it in front of the coop door so his only option is to go into the box if I chase him out through the back door of the coop.
