Actually, my older kids are in high school and are happy to stay at home rather than watch the speech. They say they'd just get up and leave the room, then probably get in trouble.
And, it's not about whether or not they pay attention. No other president has ever addressed children in this manner. School is not the place to advance political agendas. The speech should be shown in the evening, while families are home together. That way, if we choose to watch, we can discuss what is being said with our children.
