Now that is something we'll probaby never see televised/webcast in public/government school...."Where Your Bacon Comes From"!

I don't show my kids video of slaughter, but we do learn that in my animal science class.

We DID it in high school. Gotta love that liberal California education, right?

I agree completely. My daughter is pretty young still but it's never to early to teach her to start formulating her own opinions. I seriously doubt the president is going to say anything that would overly alarm most of us, but if he does, we will have the opportunity (thanks to the internet) to see what they saw and discuss it after school. The only time I remember seeing the president speak when I was in school was when Regan was shot. I have no problems with my child learning more about the leadership of our country. While I did vote for O, I'd feel the same way if this was under Bush's term as well. Our kids will pick the best path for themselves if given the right tools to make those choices. That's where I come in in guiding those choices based on our own families morals, etc..

Oh please ... any student old enough to truly care can just look it up on the internet anyway.. They aren't being denied anything.

There's a bigger picture here .. a much bigger picture.

Do a little study on Marxism .. talk to some people who came to this country to get AWAY from a socialist government ..

Let me stop talking now .. as I'm having a hard time finding nice things to say ...

Agree, this is just wrong. Forcing the kids of our land to listen to his speach. (NO freedon , if its forced down their throat)

Guess I will just shut up now.....

Interestingly, I feel the same way about the districts who are NOT showing it-they're taking away the freedom for other children and parents to choose to see it.

I guess I'm just concerned that the kids out there now are saying "A president? President who?!"

Propaganda or not, I have no problem with my kids understanding that government is out there and though it shouldn't 'control what they do and see and how they act, that government is there and perhaps these kids could do well in school and actually become part of a functioning government... someday they are the better future and a correction to all the corruption and bad spending in government.

To me, the worst that could happen is the kids won't pay attention and don't care. Those same kids are wondering why their parents care one way or another?!

I'm not sure what I think about it exactly. I've been mulling it over since this morning. My kids are homeschooled so I don't have to worry about them seeing it. But I'm not exactly opposed to it if his speech is genuine and just telling kids to stick to their books, etc.
Where's the harm in that? If it strays off that then I have a problem. To me; him telling the kids that education is important isn't a horrible thing and is the same as some stranger telling them in an elevator or something.
I also agree that most kids are not going to pay close if any attention to it and that young kids aren't going to remember any of it, and honestly shouldn't be expected to sit through a boring speech (I'm think K, 1, and 2 shouldn't have to sit through it).
I'll all probably be in one ear and out the other in no time flat.

Regaurdless of how you feel about the man himself, I still think we do all have to acknowlege that he is making history (in good or bad ways is up to you) as the first Black president of our country and our children should know of him, just like they know of Lincoln or Washington, or any of the other presidents.
I did not vote for Obama but I can at least appreciate it.

Ya know maybe he should talk to children about health like being active like JFK. This is a serious problem in our society and with children, where he can make a difference and we would ALL agree on. Is he trying to actually improve the health of our nation or garnish current votes and support and also future votes? If he acted in the spirit of JFK I might even vote for him myself, but then I believe Jack is probably upstairs shaking his head at what Obama represents now for the democratic party.

Pine if it was related to getting a good education and physical fitness I don't think you could find anyone who would oppose it.
