Obviously not a chicken...what is it?! (Warning..photo)

I would watch your chickens around that dog - my daughters dog came over to my house and within hours caught and killed a squirrel (now if only she would catch these dang rats). My poor dog ran and hid, guess he didn't want me coming after him, since he has been taught to not attack/hunt my birds - lol

I use to raise/hunt and field trial English pointers (American version). I trained on Pigeons and Bob white quail. I live in Canada. Every Spring trial I competed at Maine/New Hampshire and the Province of New Brunswick, where I live we used pen raised released Bob White quail. As stated the likely came from the hunt club.
You are correct their normal range is not this far North.
They also lay great tasting eggs:D

I don't know what it is because I can't size the picture to see details well enough, but I doubt seriously that it's a bobwhite. The bobwhite's normal home range doesn't extend into Canada.

OP said there's a local hunting place releasing them.

No, the OP didn't. The OP said the local hunting club was releasing "whatever it is." Regardless, I still can't see the picture well enough to identify it as anything but a "game bird" of some sort. It could very well be a quail. I just can't see it well enough to positively say that it is.
