October Hatch-A-Long 2017

Pics
I have 8 eggs on lockdown. 2 of them I am pretty sure stopped developing and 1 I could not tell. The other 5 I saw definite movement in several days ago.

I set up the incubator and monitored temperature/humidity for 1 full day before adding the eggs. Later on day 1 or 2 the temp went up to about 106, but probably not for too long. Most days the temp has been a bit on the low side.

Right now the temp is 97.5 with 55% humidity.

Edited to add: Eggs last candled on 10/15 and air cells marked. I have had the eggs upright in cartons w/bottom cut out until 10/17 - I then laid them down with the largest part of the air cells up. I have not handled them since.

Don't dispair! With lower temperatures the hatches take longer. I mistakenly set my incubator too low for some quail eggs and they were a full 3 days late. I almost chucked them, but then heard internal pipping and pecking, so back into the bator they went.

Optimal temps for chicken eggs is flatout 100, so -- yeah -- you're a tad low.

Dogs and chickens... Some are obsessive about chicks and eggs and others couldn't give a whit. I had a St. Bernard cross that would come running when you put baby chicks on YouTube on loud speakers. This was also the sneakiest dog in the world with very nimble lips. One day I came into my project room and there was an egg right in the middle of the floor. The incubator looked undisturbed. The dog had lifted the incubator lid and managed to snag one. The lid dropped back into place. She must've heard me coming and dropped it as she exited the room. Oh, yeah... she knew.

4 more eggs were ruined by the dog. So down to 12. what a surprise.. and of course these 4 eggs were good breeds, as well. I just have to remember that I really don't/didn't think that I will hatch any of these at the end anyway.

Update. After I posted and Peep Show said temp should be 100, I raised the temp. I could have sworn I read that really long Sally post on hatching and it said 98 or something.

Anyway, I changed it to 100 degrees. Around noon I still hadn't noticed anything. When I came in about 6pm I have one egg pipped and another zipped!!! :wee:celebrateI am beyond excited!

My pipped egg just hatched! I don't know what the clear jelly and white poo stuff is. It really peeped a lot and just burst out. whee!View attachment 1166546

Whatever the clear jelly blob was, it fell off and is stuck on the incubator plastic that has the temp probe. The poo was poo. Chick has scooted next to the zipped egg. Maybe it will wake it up haha. It looks perfect as far as I can tell.

9:30 update: The zipped egg didn't do anything. In this thread it said if it's taking too long to help it out. It was about 3-1/2 hrs ago I found it zipped. I carefully picked the shell apart until I found the head. There was no movement. I completely removed the shell, but the chick was dead. :(

The pip egg chick is very active and rolling the other eggs around in the incubator :)
