October Hatch-a-long 2022🎃🐣🍁

Pics
They are adorable!!! Congratulations!
Is the surface of that a little slick? You might want to lay down paper towels to protect their legs from splay leg.
Don’t worry, it isn’t! If it looks that way, it’s only because they’ve been scattering feed crumbs all over the floor. I’ve tested it, and there’s no slickness.

DAY 14 for the “Layla” eggs. All 13 that were set still look fantastic.😊

For those who are interested, photos of the individual chicks. 😊

These first two are both white, though one definitely appears more buff. Wing feathers in a week will be telling:

This last chick to hatch is supposed to be porcelain as well, though I see faint chipmunk stripes. Very pretty chick. It has a slipped tendon, so has a wrapped leg and a therapy chair. I hope it makes it.🙏

All 8 chicks have second toe feathering, 5 toes on each foot except for one of the buffs. A few with vaults, but most do not. Nice quality Silkies overall.🥰
How do you get a porcelain ?

How do you get a porcelain ?
I got this batch from a breeder who has several colors of Silkies including
Porcelain. They are created by crossing lavender with buff and it takes a few generations but eventually you get a porcelain. It is not a recognized color in Silkies yet and still a project color. 😊

Yall tonight the lil cochins go into lockdown!
I need yalls advice please...
So Kebonnixs sent me a replacement incubator for the one that will not maintain 99.5 because it just gets to bout 98 then drops to 96.4
I've been testing the new one and it isn't getting much higher than 98.8 or 99.0 but is holding humidity well.
Because I have a staggered hatch with these Thursday and the Silkies next week would yall use the new Kebonnixs for the Cochin hatch? Or move the Silkies to the Kebonnixs and let the Cochins hatch in the Brinsea?

You have a bit of a dilemma on your hands. You’re going to have to decide for yourself what you’re going to do but I know that many people reduce the temp a bit at lockdown. I do not.
If it were me and I had to choose, I would use the Kebonnixs for lockdown but it is not ideal.
You may risk losing the cochins though, I’m not sure. I recommend posting your query as an individual thread under the incubation forum for more advice.🙂

Yeah I just really hate this! It feels too eerily like earlier this year when I woke up to the two lils chirping that had hatched from you then few hours later when I got up they had passed and we couldn't figure out what had happened...it has to be the incubators! I'll never use these again other than letting hatched chicks fluff up!!!
