Pics
3 more chicks, 5 eggs left to hatch.
Everyone thinks I'll come home Halloween night to chicks everywhere because no one believes they'll hatch when I'm home :gigMy dogs are anxiously awaiting the chicks, they know what a closed door and pine shavings smell in the house means. My pug loves looking at them and she guards them from the other dogs.

Here's the 6 survivors. 4 out of 6 needed help at one point or another. As for the other eggs, all died. On examination most of them internally pipped but they just could not bust through the shell. There was definitely marks in attempt. I know ducks have tougher shells but this was insane. I am hoping the mothers new diet will prevent this from happening again in the future. All flock is an inacurrate name for our old feed

Those ducklings are just adorable! :love

So sorry to hear about the others not being able to pip, it's so sad when they make it so far and then just can't quite make an external pip.:(:hugs

View attachment 1945917 Good morning all. Woke up to 6 chicks this morning. Not a great pic, they all keep running around following the light. I think I'm going to call this group the Carol Ann's.

Congrats, what little cuties they are, I hope the others hatch soon too! :D

I have another serama out, and 2 more unzipping. I have 2 CCLB eggs that were supposed to hatch on thursday, and i candled yesterday, and they still look great, just havent tried yet, they are rather large eggs though, so that could make sense.

Congratulations on the ones hatching/hatched! I hope the late ones make it out for you soon!:fl

thx! me too, I have been dying for some cream legbars, and there are only 2 that developed and made it to lockdown, im considering putting a sefety hole in them, just to see if that can get them out.
I love Cream Legbars. I had an olive egger that was half CCLB, she was my favorite. Unfortunately she passed away a few months ago due to reproductive issues. I want another one though

I'm probably too hands on with my hatching but I got my hatch rates to go up significantly with my shipped eggs by adding safety holes, and assisting more if needed. I hope if you do decide to add the safety holes they help! :)

I'm more excited to see how these chicks grow. The size is a key factor for us right now. We are setting up the chicks pen that I'm keeping from this hatch, my Cochin started laying so I think this means I should hatch a few of hers when this hatch is over :jumpy I bet Cochin/BJG crosses would look stunning in my layer flock.
