October hatch "Grow-a-long"🐥

Cleaned out the large dog kennel last night, gave Himawari a bath, gave her a few fake eggs which she immediately sat on and waited a few hours. Just stuffed all 11 babies under her now at 12:30 without incident. She did not seem to notice at first. Babies settled in under her. I hear some “mama” sounds. Hope the chicks accept her.🤞

Fun! I love watching chicks grow up! I had 3 hatch on Oct 21/22nd. The are just over a week old and starting to get their feathers ;) looking like some interesting colors! They are from the same farm as my July hatch which gave me 2 EE and 1 OE. One of these chicks has really orange legs! The other two have the green/slate legs

Can't wait to hear how they're doing! :D

Also, I like the name Himawari!

Thanks! My daughter names the chickens and she’s in a Japanese/anime phase.😊
It means Sunflower.🌻

Well the broody attempt was a fail. This morning the babies were in one corner and Himawari was in the other corner and she kept pecking them and would not let them eat. Decided just to put them back in the little brooder where they are happily eating making content sounds. Himawari is back out, at least she got a bath out of it.🤣

Maybe she just got the initial shock of seeing so many babies and not wanting to take care of them? Maybe you could try again and see? I have no clue, I haven't had any of our hens taking care of chicks before :idunno
