October hatch "Grow-a-long"🐄

Sad news for me tonight as well…one of my two babies that hatched died over the weekend while I was away on vacation 😢 it appears to have developed pasty butt and the pet sitter didn’t know to do anything for it 😢🄺 So now I have one tiny lonely white d’Anver chick 😩

@LadiesAndJane your Australorp chicks are adorable!! I hope the FTT makes it!

@Gammas Bearded Babies I’m so sorry your little FTT isn’t doing well. 😢 Chickening can be so sad :-(

I can't say it enough Kurby!!! (Other thread)
I am so very sorry!!!
My little baby passed during the night...so thankful though that God took it rather than me having to. It went peacefully in the kitchen brooder though.

Yeah I’m super bummed :-( Owning chickens and having a life are sometimes not very compatible it seems. 😢

I’m sorry you lost your sweet baby too, but grateful you didn’t have to be the one to do it. You did everything you could for her and she knew lots of love in her life ā¤ļø We might need some new pictures of the buff fluffers too ā¤ļø

I totally agree! We are supposed to go on vacation in week or so and I'm really worried bout the lil Buff babies and the Cochin babies since we've hit this freezing weather now! I kept the Buff babies in the garage brooder cause they’ve struggled so much. And the Cochin babies made it through last night just fine and it was low 20s!
I'll try to get pics today...been a really rough week...praying this one is better!

I found a lady that is selling mille/calico bantam cochins that are 5 days old...this might be the answer. I don't really NEED another bantam cochin chick...but the other option is silkies and I really don't need more of them either haha. She also has female 7 week old lavender bantam cochins AHHHH WANT.

I am so sorry to read this. :hugs It is so heartbreaking at times raising chicks, I know how much you were looking forward to these little ones.

They are absolutely adorable!!!

My 2 week old Buff Silkies started flying and hopping out of the brooder in the kitchen so since I've had so many problems with em I didn't feel it safe to put them in the brooder down in the run with the 3 week old Cochins...not to mention we have now got freezing weather - snow and sleet yesterday in Tennessee! So I moved them to my clean ICU brooder in the garage and have a heat light on em...garage temp is 56. Do yall think the heat lamp will be enough heat for em? They are chirping cuz it is different and the little FTT baby is in the kitchen slowly passing but doesn't appear to be in any pain at all. Just slept since like noon today 😄.
:hugs :hugs :hugs

Agree that going on vacation is hard when you have animals/pets to care for. šŸ™‚

I actually fly people I can trust over, usually my sister or my best friend, to watch my chickens when we rarely stay away over night or longer. I do not usually have trouble getting folks to come to Hawaii to take care of chickens (OK, so truthfully, it is also to take care of my mom, who I can not leave alone over night 🤣).
