He does look like he could be a barred rock mix, though it’s hard to tell because he has two copies of the barring gene. Based on this, I believe the chick is showing silver, and he inherited two recessive pattern genes from his mixed parents, like @Jada22’s barred silver columbian cockerel.

Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
