one of my three lavender orps hatched out darker than the others and at first I thought he was showing barring on his feathers, but he has grown out with a weird, dark pewter color and his feathers have a light area near the tip of each feather, not exactly mottled, because it is not white, but the light area is the normal lavender color that the other birds are... I have never seen anything like it in any color bird. He has never been sick or had any change of feed or anything like that. He is the biggest of the three. Any one seen one like this? Here he is standing next to a normal colored one.

And here is a close up of his back. Not the best pics I know, it was overcast and raining and thundering.

There is no brown on his feathering. That is just the color of the brown wood stain on the inside of the den box reflecting off his feathers.

Birds that are blue and lavender look more blue than lavender. You would think that the extra dose of a diluter would make them even lighter in colour, or at least the same, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

Also I am assuming it came from Hinkjc (sp?) which would be from black and lavender with no blue in there. I noticed there are some black chicks in the pic also, are they from the same mating?

Yes, these came from DutchChic who got her birds directly from hinkjc. The parents are blacks, split to lavender. No blues (that I know of) and the blacks in the pic are from the same set of eggs.

Edit. Here's a pic of them as day olds or so... you can see how he looks darker even then.
