Hello everyone. I was holding Squeak today, and I noticed a wound on her toe that has a weird looking feather coming out of it  The feather is very smooth and odd looking. My chickens have been having issues with mites recently, so I wasn't sure if that was the cause. I'm not sure how to treat it. Should I remove the feather? Or just put something on it? I included a picture for reference.

It looks like blood is still in the feather shaft.... if so cuttin or pullin it out is bad from what i understand. That feather is still growin and can cause more blood loss.

Have you soaked it in epsom salt bath to clean it up so you can see it all better?if not that probably needs done. Or at least soak it in clean water to get the blood off so you can see the wound and proceed from there.

Okay, I'll be sure to try that today.

I think you may be referring to a pin feather, which is a new feather growing in. It is surrounded by a protective sheath that makes it look like a pin with the tip of the feather protruding from the end as it grows. Once the feather is more developed the sheath will break off and the feather will fully unfurl.
Obviously there is an injury there that needs cleaning and tending to but be careful not to damage that pin feather whilst you are working on it. Perhaps some cotton buds (Q tips) soaked in antiseptic wash would enable you to clean it up carefully and efficiently.

Okay, thanks!
