This is Dumpling. She started her molt about half a month ago, but lost a bunch of feathers overnight. Her tail is pretty much gone now and she is growing lots of pin feathers. Have not seen her lay an egg in a while.

This is Dumpling. She started her molt about half a month ago, but lost a bunch of feathers overnight. Her tail is pretty much gone now and she is growing lots of pin feathers. Have not seen her lay an egg in a while.
They can't lay when they are molting it takes all they have to build feathers same with a rooster when they molt
 
I finally got out with the camera. The rooster I wanted to enter a pic of didn't want to cooperate with the camera but then I remembered this guy in the bachelor coop.

This is Indy, he is 4-5 years old and is an Amish barnyard cross of black Game Bird and BBR bantam. He is usually an iridescent black with purple highlights and has brown hackle feathers. Very striking looking when he isn't looking like he did two rounds with a chicken plucker.
