I haven't had any complaints yet. We live in a quickly growing small town and others around us also own chickens. Since people are moving to our town in droves from bigger cities and other states(our 11,000 population jumped to 15,000 in almost two years), we have seen massive amounts of complaints on that NextDoor app from these cranky city people and out-of-staters about the noise from people's livestock. We are afraid it's going to get worse enough to make our city leaders to take action and ban our town from owning any livestock period soon. We just bought 2 acres in a very small (646 population) unincorporated town near our Texas/Oklahoma border. Everyone there owns farm animals and we are in better company than these cranky city karens. We have told no one else besides mom and sis where we're headed to so no one follows! Keepin it completely 💯rural! So tired of uppity city people telling us what to keep in our own property. When meat gets slim and eggs get more pricey, those same complainers will be knocking at the front door asking for help, guaranteed.

well then you need to make sure your city leaders remember that YOU were there first, F these city snivvelers. I feel your pain, its kind of the same thing here, was real rural, now they are build ing friggin subdivisions all over.

That nextdoor app, what a nazi tool that is, hey you nasty ass... you can kiss it karen. They got that in our neighborhood too, I keep getting stupid reminders in my mailbox that I should sign up for it. Why, to hear the 3 Harpies crying about everyone else? You mind your business and I'll mind my business, and it's none of your gd business what I have behind my fence, if you want to get nosy, Ill start raising rattlesnakes, HERE stick your nose in here! Cities are cancer but when it finally does hit the fan, they'll be gone in a months time or two... good riddance.

When we first signed up for it, the app was helpful and did what it was designed to do. It's become the biggest gripe site. I barely look at it anymore. Yes indeed, cities are cancer! The bigger they grow, the bigger the crime rate. We have seen it.

whats worse is the idiots with cats who think it's ok to let the thing out every night to run free through the neighborhood. Umm NO, it's called a HOUSE cat for a reason, keep it in the house because if its on my property scratching up my car, spraying my house, harrassing my pets etc it will become cannon fodder. I have a few black snakes / king snakes / racers / whatever they are called living around the house in places and they do a snazzy job of keeping the rats / mice under control, I don't need a cat killing things and leaving them half chewed laying all over the place, nor do I want to hear them going at it under the window for 10 minutes straight at 2 am. I dont care what your pet is, just keep it on your property and not being a nuisance.

As I've said before, that drives me CRAZY.

When you move to the country you have no right to complain abut the livestock and farm machinery that was there before you were.

I dont care what your pet is, just keep it on your property and not being a nuisance.

Amen.

Keeping backyard chickens is a wonderful thing to do. It has great experiences and lessons that you can learn. On top of that you get eggs out of your pets and your eating healthier. However, your neighbors might not share your enthusiasm for poultry. So in this week's poll, we would like to find out: Have Your Neighbors Ever Complained About Your Chickens?
  • If you answered yes, can you tell us how you solved the problems?
  • If you answered with no, did you do anything special to prevent angry neighbors?
Please place your vote above, and elaborate in a reply below if you chose "Other".

We're very live and let live in my area. I have chickens, my neighbors have cows, and my other neighbors have little boys. We all have dogs. There's plenty of noise, and no one complains.
