Thanks Our oldest hen is Charlie she is a barred rock. She will be turning 2 1/2.

I’ve never had any chickens live to be very old, but I have a friend who raises chickens, and they have what I believe was an Ameraucana hen that was 20 years old! I haven’t heard of her for awhile, so I’m not sure if the hen is still alive. The hen looked old, she had bad eyes, and walked around very slowly, but for being 20 years she was rocking it. The hen was given to my friend by her grandpa who has since passed, so she is very special to them. I told my friend back then she might just beat the record for oldest hen! I’ll have to ask her to see if the hen is still alive.

Here’s my oldest chickens! They’ll be 3 this year! I have two buff hens that will be 3 too.

My oldest is still living, she is almost 8 YO. She hatched in May ´13.

May she live a long life!

I have an 11 year old Australorp hen that was recently given to me. She has arthritis, an enlarged heart, breathes a bit heavy and can't roost anymore. But she has a healthy appetite, she loves to snuggle and is still quite the chatter box!

I grew up with a mixed breed hen named Pepper at my Grandmothers farm. Very unique colored hen who was a mother to many broods of chicks in early years. Long story short, after divorce in family, wasn’t able to go to the farm anymore...but last I saw her she was going on 13 years old. That’s the oldest chicken I personally knew.
We adopted some hens I knew at their original home since they were hatchlings. They are about 6 years old now. My oldest hand-raised entirely by us is my little hen Chicken Hawk, who is 4 this year.
