No problem chickenmania, I'm pretty new here and already I read it over and over and over :he
Its not in my plans to risk a felony, time in jail etc over a $8 chicken.
Yes I love them, yes I do get attached and in the beginning they overrun your life getting one to cook up warm oats with cut apples before making my own breakfast on cold mornings. Is that obsession or just good care :idunno

Obsession, but in a good way!

We all can relate.

I have recently lost two hens, one Australorp and one Barred Rock. What animal will remove the entire head and neckbone and eat the rear off a chicken. Sounds bizarre but thats the way it went down. Please advise!!!!

Iam not sure where you live to know all the different predators in your area. One thing you mentiond about the rear being eaten though ive had dealings with. I live in eastern Carolina and opossums are notorious for this. I discoverd this years and years ago while deer hunting. I had a deer we couldnt find till next morning and a opossum had got to it. In talking with some old timers and me looking back at other experiences ive had, i now know its a good clue pointing toward a opposum.

Sounds like possums. They are bad to kill and take off the head and eat the back end to get at the innards. They will also kill just to kill. Raccoons will too!

Same in MO for wild animals but neighborhood and stray dogs are competing with raccoons for #1

Hawks are the bane of some people but have never gotten past my roosters. They have taken several meaties I didn't have a rooster with though.
