HaHa. Well, kathyinmo was right. It had no need for a hat and it came off. Phew!

I have a barnyard mix of eggs. My only roo is a BCM. I don't want to waste the space and list all the possiblities of who the mothers are. I only put in one white egg and that is the one that hatched first. I have 2 EE's that have hatched now as well.

They are soo early. Sounds like a lot of people are having their's early. Well, I did mention that I had some spikes in the temp right? Hey, I'm not complaining. So far they all look healthy. I have three out, three more pipping and zipping. Out of 10, I think this is pretty good for a first timer. And their not done yet!

Cut the sides of the egg carton down a bit. This makes it easier for the little ones to flomp out after they pop the top off the egg. The first time I used egg cartons I only cut the lid off. For a while it looked like a had a Whack-a-Mole game in my incubator because the chicks pipped, zipped, but then couldn't climb out!

I've got 5 Cream Brabanters waddling around in my incubator this morning. Two Salmon Faverolles pipped, but they haven't fully hatched yet. Today is my official hatch day, and I'm off work, so I'm going to be checking on them all day long. This will be the first hatch that I've witnessed from beginning to end. Usually then hatch at night, so I miss all the gooey wet chick part.

I now have 13 pips! That is out of the 17 that made it to lockdown. I know my temps ran a little high at times but I hope they are all ok.

Charmedbychickens - congrats on your new babies!

First off, congrats on your successful chicks!! Thanks for the pointer. I will definately trim them down. I have wondered about how hard it would be on them to crawl out. Do you usually use this method? Does it help with drowning issues or am I just giving myself false security? Some of the aircells look pretty good but some look a bit smaller than ideal compared to drawings I have seen. Also, since I have a hodgepodge of egg sizes going, I am seeing some that are completely full at this time and some that look like they need a bit more time to "cook". That makes me think that when I go into lockdown tonight, some will be hatching later.

I have 2 pips this morning, out of 14...It's a little early for them (this is only day 19...lockdown was yesterday), so my anxiety level has now skyrocketed! The brooder is ready and waiting!

All four eggs quit the past couple of days, they're as silent as rocks.

They were due today, my very first babies.

I'm so devastated, you have no idea.

My heart is broken
