In Native American tradition, women are held on an equal plain as men. Especially the "Grandmothers" those who are past the age of childbearing. Man sprang from the womb of Mother Earth and is nurtured at the breast of woman.

Many tribes have a "Moon Lodge" where women go during their "Moontime" to protect the rest of the tribe from her power.

My paternal great grandfather was part Cherokee. His mother was either full or half Cherokee. Of course, that means that I only have a tiny fraction of Cherokee in my own genetic makeup but it is something about which I am very proud. (I also have a lot of Irish in my heritage.)

Now that I have daughters who are puberty age, I am more conscious of the messages that they receive from society. So, I really appreciate that Paganism embraces spiritual equality among both sexes.

I also like the respect for the different stages in a woman's life. Our society doesn't really value post menopausal women, so I also appreciate the respect for "Grandmothers'
