I went to a really small off shoot of the Pentecostal Church once with a friend. She had invited me so I went. All of a sudden they were all speaking in tongues at the top of their lungs!!!

Holy Moly!! How are you to understand what is being said if everybody had words/sounds coming out at the same time.

Let's just say, I didn't go back there again!!

I have been to a variety of churches over the years. Many friends and family members have talked me into visiting... but I have NEVER felt comfortable. I think that's the only thing that stopped me from going Christian as a kid. I just felt like God was ignoring me, but his henchmen were watching me suspiciously, as if they expected me to steal something. I still feel that way when I walk into a church. Its the feeling you get in a museum when you know the curator suspects you are gonna touch something you shouldnt. It just creeps me out. I don't feel right in churches. They feel the oposite of friendly and welcoming.
I tried as a kid to be 'normal' and I failed on every level. It used to make me feel sad and alone, but I am glad for it now. I have found WAY cooler people to spend my time with and they love me just fine the way I am. 'Normal' is not only overrated, but largely illusory anyway.

LOL I think that the side hug is new. When I was a kid, most southerners that I knew gave full on bear hugs. Now more people seem afraid to touch the front parts of their bodies together.

I have noticed that, my wifes Catholic family is much less "kissy" than my ___________ family. Heck, when I worked closely with customers and they became friends, it was hugs and kisses on the cheek whenever we met.. I kissed my dad when he was alive, my boys kiss me.. A hug and a kiss is a good thing...

Darn no kiss smiley..

We hug and kiss in my family also. I can't imagine not being physically affectionate.

I think that the side hug is because some people are terrified that they might accidentally tempt someone else. Here is satire about the side hug

Absolutely no displays of affection in my family. Heck, when I was growing up the only place I ever heard "I Love You" was on TV. Imagine my discomfort when I met my husband's touchy feely Italian Catholic family. It's been a long, difficult process for me to learn how to tell my kids that I love them and to remember to hug more often but I'm doing pretty well now.

Thats funny because the women at this church would hug your shoulders.. Never letting fronts touch at all...

This was the case at our church as well .. It was that the temptation was too strong..

Random thoughts apropo nothing. All of the parts f the universe from the tiniest quark to the galaxies themselves are in motion. The planet spins and swirls through space at mind bending speeds. Every molecule in my body and in all of the objects around me swirls and whirls and dances with energy and movement. If I weren't connected to it I would blow apart at the very speed! I can fight that all of my life trying to be more evolved and rational or I can find a flow with it that brings me peace and a sense of connection.

Some times I feel disconnected. Usually I can get reconnected by slowing down and tuning in. Go with the flow.
