I know @fatty and friends has 5 indoor house ducks who are very well taken care of. I believe they have their own room, and wear diapers around the house and get to go into a fenced backyard when they can be watched. They're setup seems to work quite well.
we turned our sunroom into a duck room! it works great because it’s safer than a coop outdoors and i don’t have to worry about them. the only thing is ducks need to be outside all day, so even tho mine don’t sleep in a coop they are outside from sunrise to sunset as long as the weather isn’t horrible ❤️

I don’t think it’s a crazy idea. Chickens are pets too. It might be messy having a house chicken. Especially since they are difficult to potty train. So I have read. You can find several people on instagram who have house chickens to see how they manage them. Seems like it can be done but it might require bit of work. I’m certain that you will receive a wide difference of opinions on this site. Some folks are very opposed to the idea. Lots of folks are also very opposed to having one chicken ect…. It’s one of those controversial questions lol . But in my humble opinion if the bird is well taken care of and provided with all her needs, example indoor equivalents/ alternatives to outdoor needs then it should be fine. I’ve heard of several folks who have thriving indoor house hens.

Looks like your going to need diapers too which need to be changed frequently. But I have seen some very successful house hen keepers…

Cheers and happy Serama pet hunting!
Thank you so much for linking those pages! Those will be great resources for me! I already followed them on my chicken page! :) We have a patio and deck with a container garden coming that they would be free to roam under supervison/maybe with a take down fence around. Im thinking of having a sort of hutch inside where they can sleep/lay eggs, but roam with a diaper on during the day. But I believe I would get two because of how chickens live naturally.

That is way too cute! I will definitely have to do some thinking and see some ideas of house birds before I commit! I've always had chickens, but outside in coops. Only those who needed it came inside during the cold MN winters! :)

Hey everyone. I'm a fellow Serama owner. Love the little ones! I have a rooster named Tobias, Ethel my hen.. couple days ago I lost my 2nd hen from a hawk. Today I'm picking up a Serama chick from a friend of mine.

Can you all share more about the breed. I am in western Washington and am looking for s small, super sweet chicken for my son to love on. I have a flock of mostly big girls, who are all sweeties, but my son gets overwhelmed by their size. He wants so badly to be able to go out and pick them up and snuggle them but they run away or get flappy and he gets scared.
Can these little guys live with large fowl?
How do they do in winter?
Any trouble with illness or sensitivity due to their size?
And other info you can share would be appreciated!

Not great with fowls larger then their size.
Not great in weather under 40 * F.
Not that ive experinced, pretty similar to other chickens illness wise.
great for snuggling, very sweet birds, better indoor chickens then outdoor in my opinion. Great with kids and never loud (even the roosters sound quieter then a mouse) do not attack kids, but tend to be quite snappy to other chickens.
roosters barely ever crow, they barely ever mate and can go up to $100 in pricing for show quality, you can buy a lower show quality but pet one for around $30. Roosters are cheaper. Youll fall in love. Their chirps sound like a breath of air its so quiet. Lays egg every other day, 1 0Z in weight
