Nice birds indeed, congrats!

Btw, do you think its important to have some grass in their pen?
There are two aspects.
  1. The grass is not needed for them to survive. Observed when I had look on many pictures. When you have not grass around where the birds can pick and search for insects, you will have much more problems with feather picking, especially young birds feel then boring.
  2. If we just look on the wellness then I have to say yes grass and normal ground (no sand) is important. The birds like the grass to eat to lay in etc. and they like to make wholes into the normal ground for sun bathing.
If it has an influence to the fertility too, I don’t know for sure. But when I compare my hatching rates with others, where no grass is in the aviary, it is much higher.
I love to observe my birds and they should feel as comfortable as possible and due to this it is a must for me.

Typical Pictures on sunny days during the mating season:

The males try to avoid the sun and standing 95% of the time in the shadow. With this they avoid that the plumage loose the colour and brightness, which is at the moment still important, it is mating season.

On the other side, the hens are nearly all the time in the sun and enjoying the nice weather.

Your green peafowl look great! Whoever gets to own those chicks one day will be very lucky.

The blue on their wings is looking very nice. That peahen has some really nice color!
Zazouse, if you are will come to Germany, you are warmly welcome.

MinxFox, yes the peahen with the pale yellow in the face is very special. What you cannot see on the picture is how colorful she is over the back. But these are just pictures, with your eyes you would see it much better.
This is really interesting to see, that all hens are looking different, but the males are much more similar.

Rainy spring day:
Today we had a warm rainy day with 14°C. He whole day it was raining only once without any stop and we got over 60 litre per square meter water. For the hens it doesn’t matter if it is raining, but the male don’t like it. Their long train feathers are getting due to the rain very heavy and this is the reason why they are sitting nearly the whole day without any movement on the perches.

You can see very well, when the birds are in good conditions the plumage is rejecting the water, which means they don’t getting wet. The trains of the males are getting in wet conditions an amazing, nice copper colour.

The breeding season 2015 for our green peafowl is nearly finished. The males are starting to drop off the trains and the last Chicks will eclose within the next two weeks.
People who are interested in offspring and/or to participate the WPA stud-book program can now make reservations for offspring. We are starting to handover them starting from an age of approx. 5 month.
International export is possible, all birds are registered and all needed documents can be issued.
