Oh, fer pity's sake, DO SOMETHING!

No, that's where it's supposed to be, in the air cell. The chick is wrapped in an inner membrane in there, like an amniotic sac. When it pips, it pokes a hole through the membrane into the air cell in the egg. Then it pokes a hole in the shell. Did you get the PM I sent you yesterday?

Second chick just hatched and, between the two of them, they have knocked the other eggs around so badly I can't tell which ones have pips and which don't! They look like a couple of drunken sailors in there. Rather wet, drunken sailors. The first one kept pecking at the second one's egg while it was trying to hatch, then falling asleep on it mid-peck and startling back awake when the second one pecked back through the membrane.

I have 4 pips now! Two are getting open pretty good but I am worried about the first one. It knocked off a little more shell from this morning but the membrane is still intact! Do you think it will suffocate? Should I go in and break the membrane so it can breathe? Terri O

Yes I got your pm. Isn't the air cell in the top of the egg? Nothing else has happened. I have 15 other eggs in there and they haven't done anything yet and don't want to risk them. I have a picture i could post if that whould help.

The membrane is completely intact? No whole at all? Oh dear, I had enough trouble not helping my second one out because the membrane seemed so thick and it was having trouble breaking it. I'll wait to hear what the experts say on this one!

So exciting--the third chick is zipping around getting ready to hatch. Strange thing, though-- the other two chicks are doing everything they can to get to the one that is hatching (it's blocked in by a couple of other eggs) just like the first one just about sat on top of the second while it hatched. Is this normal? It's cute, but the already hatched chicks are getting distressed and keep falling on their butts trying to climb the unhatched eggs to get to the hatching one!

Well I got a reply from my expert...he says, "get yourself a good tweezers and a small glass of Brandy. Every time you think you want to touch those eggs pinch yourself real hard with the tweezers and take a sip of brandy." I guess that means LEAVE IT ALONE! LOL!

So...after I typed that message I went and took a look and sure enough, he poked thru after all day of nothing but a triangle of membrane showing! I guess he showed me! Terri O
