Oh GROSS-- Help!

It looks like oviduct contents. I've seen pictures of surgeries done on hens with reproductive problems, and sometimes their tubes are just filled with what looks like scrambled eggs. Good news, if she did indeed pass that. Let's see if she starts laying eggs again...

Would not laying or being eggbound in some way, make her crop not empty? I have had some hens lay wierd eggs before but none really eggbound yet so not real familiar with that yet. I did check her vent and it looked normal and she didn't act like she was straining or anything. From the looks of the gross thing, it sure looks like it could of plugged her up though.

It just baffles me how fragile our chickens can be and what can happen to them. Who knew? Hopefully, she will start to turn the corner and rebound without any long term health issues. It's great that you care so much. I do all I can to make my girls and roos as comfortable as I can. Great work!

Oviduct. THe white part in your diagram. Eggs being shed from the ovary, passed into the oviduct, then for some reason not moving down and getting no shell put on them. If this passed, postentially she may be able to lay eggs again.

This is a picture taken at surgery to remove a hen's oviduct. For comparison, the scalpel handle in the picture is about 4" long. It sure looks like what your girl passed.

Thanks everyone for all of your help and replies. I knew I could count on all the awesome BYC people for help.
Yes, that does look similar to what my hen passed. I hope she will be okay after this and not be an internal layer or anything.

She ate a little bit of cooked egg this morning. Her crop is still full feeling. Not like soggy, but full of food. It kinda baffles me that her crop is still this full after hardly eating for a few days. I am gonna take her outside for a little while and let her be with the other hens and see how she acts now. I think she is lonesome by herself.
I wouldn't care if she ever laid another egg as long as she is healthy. She is such a sweetie pie... she is one of those jump up in your lap and wants to have her neck scratched..kind of hens. She is a silver duckwing phoenix, not real pretty coloring or anything but such a sweet disposition. She has two daughters and one son that I hatched in the incubator a few mos ago that are just as sweet as she is. I think she is precious so that is what I named her
