Oh lord, husband gifted me geese!

You got your geese at start of breeding season so in probably May he’ll settle. Right now he’s in protection mode he has to protect his mate he has to protect her nest spot and all the space around them. Not a good time for other birds to be around them. They are beautiful geese. Will you let them free range any? Your female isn’t Toulouse the coloring looks buff but I’ve never seen one with a tuft. Wonder if Roman tufted comes in Buff color? @Pyxis.

I agree with Tufted Buff :) Metzer Farms breeds them.

Congratulations on your new geese!

I was told by the previous owner that if you baby talk to him he won't attack you. So, I goosey-goo at him and he's fine.

That one picture where he struts the back of his neck - you must have been goosey-gooing at him right there!

I'm so impressed that you've managed to avoid gander attacks; you being new to geese and them not knowing you. I've observed with my own gander that the baby talk really, really works, especially if you bend your head head down a little while you talk. But most people seem to have trouble doing that when a loud gander charges at them :idunno.

Yesterday we were sorting chicks and he REALLY wanted to help, as in standing right between us, looking up, reaching for the chicks as we handled them... I can't say his intentions were good but he let us do what we were doing with nothing more than a whole lot of interest.

That is so typical. My gander will do that, too - not that I have chickens to sort, but what ever I do, he seems to think it's for his personal entertainment, and he wants to be included. "Is this for me? No, ok, carry on ... Is this for me then? No, ok, carry on ..."

What a fabulous Valentine's gift! Had you been wanting geese or was it a complete surprise?
Hang in there, all our ganders have gone a bit nutty right now, things should calm down a bit in a couple months though 😂 We'll see...
Beautiful pair!!

Yeah I was wondering if she actually was a Toulouse or not, after cruising through geese breeds. That's what the owner had said she was, though she does have that top not.

They have a total of about an 1/8th acre to themselves. We have a big field off of rooster coop that's split in half. If the boys are too little to range then the geese get the whole spot, otherwise I have to shut the gate to just the 1/8th spot for them, since I was told NOT to put them in with chickens.

Since she's laying and if this is the worse he'll be, he's really not that bad! I've been nibbled a couple of times.

Being around big birds doesn't scare me, after having dealt with an aggressive turkey tom and countless roosters. I'll snatch a rooster out of thin air if he comes at me. Turns out, I can carry around a grown Tom Turkey too.

When the goose comes up I stand still and baby talk to him. We talk, he's cool. :lau "Just here to do chores goosey-goo, leave me be."

yeah. I've killed a aggressive rooster with my bare hands after he drew blood on my back legs with his spurs! he made the mistake of coming back for a 2nd hit. ;) when a aggressive goose approaches i lean down, point at him and just calmly talk to him. after he's done his posturing and realize I'm not a threat he backs right off. watch your back though! they sometimes like to nail you on the way out.
