I have a 3 month old chick that has been doing poorly. I Was giving her Tylan .3 mL because she is so small. I could not find the syringe I normally use. So I got another one and I drew up the wrong amount! Instead of .3 mL I gave 3 mL. Oh my God have I killed her?

Interestingly enough, the document I found literally said to not give Tylan to chickens. But we all know that it is done. Here is some info for you.

"Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), if necessary
Pigs and calves: Intramuscular injection of 30mg/kg bodyweight per day (three times maximum recommended dose) for five days produced no adverse effects.
The LD50 for subcutaneous injection of tylosin in mice is estimated to be >2500mg/kg bodyweight."

How much active ingredient is in 3 ml? Is it the 50mg per ml liquid concentration? If so, you dosed 150mg. Did you have the bird drink it, or did you inject it? I think you are probably ok either way......

Non-Human Toxicity Values:

I gave it orally not IM That is probably worse. I have never been in such a state. I called the vet and I have a 3 month old chick that has been doing poorly. I Was giving her Thailand .3 mL because she is so small. I could not find the syringe I normally use. So I got another one and I threw up the wrong amount! Instead of .3 mL I gave 3 mL. oh I gave it orally not IM. I am sure that makes it worse. I called the vet and he said she might die but he probably thought I gave it IM too. I am in such a state

I think oral is not as bad actually. According to those stats at least. Takes a hell of a lot to kill a rat it seems. And still a lot more than what you gave to kill a dog. Also, the LD50 only means it killed 50% of the animals. So even if you hit the unknown LD50 for chickens, there is still a 50/50 chance the bird will survive.

oh I gave it orally which is probably worse. It is Tylan 50 and there is 50 mg in a cc. She is so frail anyway. Probably maybe 1.5 kilo’s About half the size of the other 2 chickens that are the same age. I am a nurse and I can’t believe I made such a glaring error. If I killed her I will never forgive myself
