Ohiki Chicken Thread

He will prob clean up some when he gets his adult feathers but he looks like dun-ginger split... If you want to clean them up later just start breeding ginger to ginger.....Still looks good though....TM
I think you are right.. I can't wait to see how he turns out.. Never had any like these before.. I think my birchen roo is carrying rec. white so I will try to get some of those as well.. I guess I can always use any of the odd phoenix colors to make new colored ohiki.. But for now, I want to experiment with the color combinations I can make with what I have.. I know I have melanizers and pg floating through them.. So I should be able to create a few colors with them pure and then outcross to make others.. Of course I won't have room to keep all the colors, but I may work on them

I hope it looks good.. I am thinking it would look similar to a pumpkin... The chocolate looks great with barring too...

I have some that are pretty much pumpkin. I haven't got a pumpkin rooster yet but have one older hen and she has passed it on to a couple other young hens I have coming up.

You do know that true Pumpkin is made from Dun and ginger together. The dun with the red ginger seems to blend very well making this unique color. I've specialized in dun for about 20 years now...It's my favorite color in poultry....TM....

That's exactly what I was thinking just by phenotype.. I took my khaki sumatra and put her with my shojo roo.. On the ohiki I already have dun and ginger, so that is an easy fix on those.. Dun is very beautiful.. I like the pumpkins, but I don't like it when the dun gets homzygous and turns to splash (khaki).. However, I would love to see a khaki barred or dun barred bird fully grown. Mine are young yet... Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts.. I really appreciate it!!!! Confirmation from others is always nice. A few pics of pumpkin roos, though not ohiki..
These are laced, but you can see how the melanizers make the lacing dun also.. Just a lot darker.

TM, Also working on DUN Phoenix in largefowl.. And barred dun.. Hopefully they will come along well..Would love for someone to post chocolate ohiki pics, even if in Project stage.. Thanks..

True....Still when Dun is homozygous on ginger it does look unique also...That light cream/khaki breast along with the red is neat also... I'll get some of my old pics of barred duns and barred Khaki's I made years back. Remember about 10 years back when I had the Millie phoenix I made?..I guess I've known you a long time now...Gee time flys by....TM

Yes, I remember.. My, it has been a long time..LOL>>

I can't wait to see the pics.. I really am enjoying the idea of dun.. i have a khaki barred birchen roo I am using to try and make some interesting dun phoenix.. he is only part longtail, but the babies will hopefully look nice.

I will be EAGERLY AWAITING THE PICS! THANKS FOR SHARING THEM WITH US.

Toni,
I was cleaning brooders today and moving out some older birds and actully found one I didnt know I had. Nice little blue pullet. She came from the rose comb birds I got from you a couple years back, but this one is single combed so she should make you a nice one. Will bring her up next time I come to see you.
Hatched 3 nice looking dun silver gingers today too, love that dun in a bird. Once I get a few more solid duns in the brooder, I 'm gone move the dun hen to the barred phoenix pen and work on those next. I love it on my d'anvers so it has to look good on a long tail. Will keep you posted on them. Set a bunch more blues today too, so should have you in good shape this fall I hope

Hey guys! I wanted to post some pictures of my boy, I love his color! He didn't want his picture taken but I told Chris I'd get some updated pictures so I figured I would share them with you guys too! My Project Ohiki hen is sitting on some eggs, I am going to candle them tonight and see if I have anything!

Oh and here is an ohiki inspired pot I did in ceramics class this semester, I wasn't really happy with how It came out. But I wanted to share. It's hand built with the African coil technique and really my first time doing anything ceramics related.

I like the pot.. It is very unique and exotic looking.. Nice Job... I really enjoyed pottery in school..

all looking good Ian.
if you didnt like the pot that's fine, but you didnt have to go and break it too... I thought it was pretty cool looking myself, especially for a first timer and hand made to boot!
