Ohiki Chicken Thread

That chick is adorable!

OK so that explains it then. Does that mean that these faster growing tails may not be peaking yet due to the influence of the Pheonix traits and/or Cy's bloodline? The other fast growing fellow has what I think you would call a full curtain and of the two he is my keeper. He hops on my head when I'm in the pen with him so he's got the sentimentality edge over Tchai going for him! Tchai may be the better bird of the two, I don't know yet. Here is a picture of the other fast growing fellow, Friendly, he is the rooster in the back. The lovely young roo in front doesn't have a name yet

He is from the same hatch as Friendly and Tchai, but I don't know if he is one of the fly tie crosses or not.

OH, by the way, did I mention how gorgeous these birds are! They are so flashy in the barred colors.. G O R G E O U S !

Ok, I will say this one more time.. Those are so beautiful.. You are doing a great job with them.. I am so thrilled.. Can't wait to see what you hatch out this next year..

Hahahaha - I know it! Thanks to you and Toni-Marie! I've been meaning to get some good pictures of them to share. Its not easy taking pictures in the run either, besides ruining a pair of jeans there is one silkie rooster we like to call Harry, AKA Dirty Harry, for a reason LOL, that I have to watch out for as I'm on my elbows trying to get a good shot. He has surprised me a couple of times, but I'm pretty good now at keeping a hand free to keep him back now

yes good job, those certainly are nice. Ohiki wise, the true bb red crele one up from is by far your best to type bird. You can still see the phoenix influence in the tail of the cream barred one. Both are beautiful birds though. Breed that male to some bb reds or better yet creles if you hatched some and you'll be set on creles. I love that color in any bird... looking good congrats on them

Thank you, that helps to confirm what I was thinking about them. That the rooster in front shows a lot of Ohiki type. Its why I wondered if maybe he wasn't one of the crosses because I had both Ohiki and Ohiki/fly ties hatch together. I'm not familiar with the fly ties to really recognize their traits, except for those thin feathers

he has to be fly tie Cross or he would not be barred. I made those as I did not get any crele or barred pure ohiki in my original stock. Just some barred ohiki flytie Crosses.

pretty sure all the barred ohiki in the US are from Toni-Maries original flytie crosses. Pretty sure that's how she got the barring in all of them. So in short, if it's barred it has some degree of flytie in it, though the genes controling the "flytie" feathering may not be expressed any more. Ohiki have very thin feathering to start with, so a thin saddle a lone doesnt justify calling him a flytie. But with a barred bird , they all should be decendants of them in ohiki

Right.. The flyties have ohiki in them.. and are thus a mix.. Flyties are not just bred for thinness, but we try to select ours toward those thin feathers, length, barb counts, and webless saddles and hackles..
