OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Oh Mark, how great that is!!!! Were most of your Mallards wild acting? This Runner Duck Mallard goes absolutely crazy whenever I reach in to pick it up. You would think I was going to eat it alive the way it acts. My Mallard girls were wild acting and have finally settled down to the point where they will eat lettuce out of my hand but this one is crazy wild, lol.
Maybe he will get tamer as time goes by.:fl

No! they don't act wild. I think they are crossed with Rouen. I know the ones my wife got from a hatchery years ago were crossed mallards. mallards don't lay as many eggs as the cross does, the cross is a fantastic layer. She was selling duck eggs.
Thanks Mark, my one little Mallard laid almost all winter last winter since it was so mild. I am hoping since she is 3 now she can still do that this winter for me and that we will have another mild one. I too am able to sell some of my eggs when I have a surplus which is quite often. I have friends and a coworker that loves them. I love them too though so I try to make sure I keep enough for us as I have not bought any chicken eggs for well over a year.

Susie made cakes with them and all kinds of stuff. We ate them for breakfast all the time. I can't taste the difference between duck eggs and chicken eggs. When we had Bobwhite Quail, she cooked them up for breakfast also.

I hard boil mine so that I can grab one and eat it when I get home from my bus route. I also like them fried and have baked with them many times. I too cannot tell the difference between duck eggs and chicken eggs but I do know how much healthier the duck eggs are for you as they have a lot more of the good cholesterol in them and my blood work always comes out great. Wow, that's neat that you can eat quail eggs too. I bet they must be quite a bit smaller, more like bantam chicken eggs?

Hi Debbie, I didn't know they were better for a person. :yesss::highfive:

Good morning Debbie! It's raining here again. The swans are cleaning the weeds out of the pond I put them on. It's unbelievable how fast they eat all the weeds up. They sure are a good way to clean out unwanted vegetation without using chemicals. 👁️❤️🦢🦢

Good afternoon Mark. That is great that they will do that for you!!! I wish I could find an animal that would eat the grass and weeds that grow in my gravel driveway! lol My ducks would get bumble foot from the gravel and so I use chemicals but it keeps coming back and I hate chemicals. I bet your Swans are beautiful. My two Runner Ducklings in the house are getting bigger. I spooked the Mallard one and it actually jumped out of the tote onto the floor the other day, a 4 foot drop! It is just fine which I was shocked to see and very lucky. I have them in a larger tote now which is a 50 gallon one. They have 3 more weeks in the house and the top on this one is more secure so it shouldn't be able to do that anymore. They are now three weeks old so at 6 weeks they will be outside. Have a wonderful day Mark. It was great hearing from you.

So! what you're telling he is a good jumper? You should enter him in the highest jumping duck competition here at BYC! All you have to do is get a photo with him jumping straight up his feet can't be touching the ground and no wings allowed. Ha! ha! just joking they don't have one. :ya:gig
