OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Ok, one came out with part of its old yolk sac attached. It was pulling it as it moved. Causing a small hernia(?). So I took the incubator into the bathroom ran the shower , opened the incubator long enough to cut it and closed it. The baby is still running around and seems fine. There is no bleeding. Please tell Me i did the right thing. The others were pecking at the strand and I didn't want it to get pecked at and start bleeding.

Heya mlaff! Yes you did :) Sometimes they simply haven't quite absorbed all the yolk sac yet, which isn't a problem unless a) the sac gets stuck to something and pulls, causing bleeding, or b) the other chicks start pecking it. So you did exactly the right thing :) In emergency, throwing a wet paper towel in the incubator when opening it works too -- not as effective as the spray bottle trick, but in a pinch it helps!

Thanks! I feel so much better now. Will the hernia fix itself? I'm guessing its a hernia. It's a little protruding red mass. Not much at all. The humidity actually went up instead of down due to the shower running for a couple of minutes before I took the incubator in there. Not extremely high, only up to 70%. I was tempted to take them out but didn't want to waste anytime messing with it, plus two of them were still wet. One more has started to zip. So far activity in 5 of the 7. Not too shabby :D

I did forget to ask about saddled air cells. One of the last two had it. There was movement at lockdown but it is one of the last 2 that haven't started hatching. But then again tomorrow is hatch day.

Oh, one of the ccl eggs has already pipped. Guess they are all excited to get out. :D

If you don't hear from me tonight it's because DH killed me. Lol I have 5 chirping babies in our bedroom. I do think I'm going to remove them tomorrow because it is cramped in there and one the ccl start coming I worry they won't have room to hatch.

*drool* So much on my wish list. And you're probably only about an hour west of me. Let me know if you start selling feather-babies!
And welcome to the thread! There's a lot of awesome helpful Buckeyes in here. :)
as for now, I am being a greedy owner and hanging onto all of them till I see what I end up with. I'll definitely be hatching and selling next year!
The polish and Swedish flowers are so tempting. Hmmmm. How old are they?

The SFH are a few days shy of 2 months now and the polish are 1.5months old. I'm raising all of these guys until they get some size and age to them and then this fall, probably late fall, I will decide what's staying and whats going.
