OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Oh! Before I forget, AGAIN. At the Lucasville Swap, I ran into Brian (loveourbirds). He said he'd stop in again sometime, so I won't say anymore than that, but I know a lot of us were concerned about him, so thought I'd let everyone know he's ok and doing well.

they are adorable.  do you have a pond for them?

Nah. Well, there are numerous small ponds here, but I don't let my ducks free-range for their safety. They have a couple kiddie pools they enjoy especially on these hot days, though. Hello, neighbor, by the way! Just noticed where you're from. Right down the road a bit. :)

Yes, just a few miles away, really close to the black bear sighting grrrr
I sure understand the kiddie pool thing. I wish Lucasville swap days was like it used to be and not a giant flea market. When I was little my grandpa would take me there with him and it was all about the animals and litteraly swap, trade or sell. It was exciting and I was just a little kid. I can remember him trying to find what we know as Easter Eggers so I could see green and blue eggs but never did before he died. I now have 5 EE that are 5 weeks old. I can't wait. He would be so amazed at how far chicken raising has come

@minihorse927 :love :love Just about nothing cuter on earth than a call duckling.

Speaking of which, these adorable triplets hatched yesterday! The fourth egg fell victim to the Brinsea in lockdown, sadly. Never a fun eggtopsy. They're bantam-sized :)love) but my only calls are the snowies from you, so mommy must be my only Mallard, at least? Daddy could be a call, though. I'm in looove.
(Pardon the mess of eggshell, down, and newborn duckling poo..)

they could have a call duck dad. snowy bred over grey will make all grey babies that carry the snowy gene. I think it is actually called the Harlequin gene, that is what makes a snowy a snowy. A snowy is basically a grey duck with 2 copies of the Harlequin gene.

Interesting! It'll be fun to grow them up and breed them back and see whose genes are hiding in there.

I hadn't heard of a sighting down that way. I know of a few more around here, Shawnee, and South Shore. Wonder why they're all coming out of the woodwork this year. I love bears, but my land would be bear wonderland if they found it, so it makes me really uneasy with so many farm pets out here.
I've heard the swap used to be 1000x better. I've only been going a few years, so I only know it the way it is. Wish I'd been around to see it back in the day. Or better yet, wish it still was the way it was. Last April was actually pretty good, tons of nice birds, but since then even it's been pretty lousy. Good luck with those EEs!

Bred back to snowy they should produce 50% snowy and 50% grey carrying snowy. I think. I'm a little fuzzy on the snowy genetics.
