OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Just wanted to say Hi and I hope your move is an easy one! Biggest reason I wanted to reply, is to say that I absolutely love Buff Orpington chickens!! They were my FAVORITES out of all the chickens we have ever raised. They are a friendly, stout, plush, hardy chicken. I raised all of ours from hatch and hand tamed them all. I would be out working in their pens and if I just happened to bend over near a place where they were roosting....look out, because they, for sure, thought of me as "Mom"!!! LOL it was soooo fun! I would bend over and 3 or 4, at a time, would jump on my back & be looking over my shoulder, whatever.....they loved to be on my lap which so many would come running and jump on me, it was rediculously funny. Even my 3 roosters, too! If I had to pick one up, I would just be blown away at their big muscled, strong bodies. We are gonna have more chickens this spring, they won't be hand tamed by me, but, there will be Orpington's in the group.....BEAUTIFUL BIRDS!! Good luck to you! (I'm from a small town in the countryside, E. of Lima, OH)

Hi!! To be honest, I had no idea there were "Buckeye" chickens. I just went and looked them up and read about them. They are quite pretty, I love brown eggs, so, I will definitely consider them for my pens. We haven't yet discussed the varieties we are planning to get but I know I can get what ever ones I want....so, I will get some, if I can find some. I hope to not have to start with chicks. I'd like to get some just a bit younger than layers. I'm looking forward to a break in the weather so hubby and I can get planning. What kind do you have?
I didn't read your intro carefully enough, thought you had just moved to Ohio from Arkansas but its vice versa. We have a very small backyard flock of five 11 month old pullets one each of: Black Copper Marans, Buff Orpington, Silver Grey Dorking, Easter Egger and Golden Buff (Red Star/Golden Comet). We are picking up three new chicks tomorrow a Welsummer, Light Brahma and White Rock!

Actually, I consider myself a "Ohio" girl and always will! I grew up there and left at 18 to join the USAF. Met my hubby there, he's from PA, we've lived all over the Eastern half of US (once we were out of the AF), went back to Ohio & raised our kids, then off again...finally put roots down here in AR (but Ohio is basically Home). I'll always be a Buckeye! I got more into chickens here in AR than anywhere. I started with Black SexLink, Buff Orpington's, Barred-Rock and B.R. mixed with Marans, Rhode Island Reds, Silkies, Polish (cool!), a Bantam Roo...had some awesome eggs from these birds! They were great. Kinda like what you are doing with your assortment! Found I love the Orpington's....actually, loved them all, but the Orp's were at the top of my list. Now, I'm presently just checking into all I can find out about Dwarf Nigerian Goats...tooo cute!! So, that's where I am, I don't know what I'm doing. If it weren't for my hubby, I would have a BIG BARNYARD!!! Don't get me wrong...he's loved everything I've started and he won't say know.....oh...if it were pigs, cows n such...nah....he's not into that in a barnyard. So, I'm working on it little by little! Hope you are doing great with your flock and hope to see pics sometime! I would love that.

Sorry ya'all!! I know I no longer "live" in Ohio, BUT, I was born and raised there and I AM AND ALWAYS WILL BE A BUCKEYE!!!! So, hope you don't mind that my excitement over seeing people from Ohio on here, kinda took over my brain, not realizing that I don't "live" there......IT IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE HOME!! I can connect with all the towns, cities and rural areas....so far, I'm following all of you! I feel grounded talking to Ohioans. Hope it's OK that I, kinda, flung myself in your laps, (figuratively speaking..??!!??) I love you guys!!

XOXOXOXOXOOXOXOX GO BUCKEYES!!!

Of course you are welcome here! I just thought you were a new Buckeye as opposed to an old one! Glad you found us.

I <3 my Buff Orp too, she is extra snuggly and quite possessive of me.

I mostly post pics over on the "Meyer Hatchery Chicken pic anyone??" thread as that is where our girls are from and its a pic heavy thread and also into my albums. I made a page for them here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/baker-street-chicks

Oh, AutumnHealth, I was centering my last post on anyone in the "Ohio" group who might have thought "she's an Arky, why is she in our group!"......just for fun.....I wanted to make sure I wasn't out of bounds. In my heart and soul, I'll always be a "Buckeye", just wanted to make sure I wasn't stepping on any toes.....Funny, I saw Ohio and that's where I went!! (you won't find me there in the Winters, anymore, I cannot take it in my achey bones....brrrrrr, ice & wind.....brrrrr). I won't take offense if someone didn't want me in the group either. But, you know us Buckeyes, I wouldn't take it lying down!!!
