OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I thought something like this would happen. The other day I was looking at the county fair site to get info on their bird exhibits and it was missing. It wasn't Poultry/Rabbits, just Rabbits. :hit

Now where can I look at all the pretties and decide what else I need to add to my flock?

I'm over in Cambridge & have a ton of chicks & heritage poults hatching & already up to 4 weeks old. Anyone "needing" chicks or poults let me know. I posted on craigslist, but just found out about the swaps & auctions today. What am I going to do with a couple HUNDRED spare chicks & poults???

But what about getting new chicks and eggs? Window shopping on google only goes so far.

See my reply above. You can shop my brooders...lol

I haven't heard of any at all in Ohio.  Someone mentioned that their Mother's flock had a random test; USDA showed up in bio suits and with nets, no advance warning really.  Scary. :(  But that was in another State, and quite a while ago.
I think I'd flip out of they did that to me! You're more than welcome to test us here anytime but give me warning! Gosh, I'd think that my neighbors had infected birds or something if they just show up randomly like that!

Well, then to craigslist we go.

I already see that someone in my town is selling their kids 4 H chickens that were for the fair. I bet that bites for the kids. I hope they find a way to work around that so they can participate in one way or another.

There is currently welded wire over the window but I knew that wouldn't keep snow out. LOL Thanks for the thought though.

Yeah, sorry about that. I guess maybe when I see someone with a low post count I subconsciously go to beginner default setting, better safe than sorry.

Love this Bird. She looks so cool in the sun

Hey SilkieSensation, what kinds of chicks and poults?

Turkey poults are all heritage. Blue slate or mixed color pen.

Chicks are mixes but I've tried to keep track of what color egg they hatch from. I separated them into breeding pens by egg color about a month ago so the ones I have set now should be olive eggers, brown egg layers covered by a red barred ee & a blue barred ee, silkie mixes & black/blue copper marans.

No need to be sorry I am a total beginner! Took 4 hens on 48 hour notice. Never had chickens. I'm taking the crash corse for chicken care.

You came to the right place for learning all about chickens! I came home one day to a coop and 6 chickens that dearheart decided he needed to take in from a friend in the city...found this website and forum that night and it's been a lifesaver, for the chickens at least! And now I am constantly making improvements on the coop when I read what others have done and suggested. Today we moved the feeder to an area where it won't get pooped on, fixed a shade on the west side of the coop but still need to come up with something for the south side, and cleaned out the waterer. Later I will cut some linoleum for the bottom of the poop board (another little treasure I learned from here, putting a poop board under the roost) so it's easier to clean and to eliminate splinters from happening. I put the sweet PDZ on the board, love it, and yes, learned about how to use PDZ and set up the roost over the board from here. I am chuffed with my shade invention. It's a piece of plastic lattice with screening stapled over it, and attached to the roof overhang on the coop side, and then stretched out to the top of the fence. It shades the whole side of the coop as well as their personal compost pile I made for them to scratch in. You can actually feel the slightly cooler air under there, and they have been hanging around in there off and on all day. It's made to unhook from the fence and drop down vertically along the side of the coop and run (and hook to some eyebolts on the bottom boards so the wind won't tear it off) in winter so snow and wind will be partially blocked with the screening.
