OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Does anyone here use PDZ in their coops?  I looked at it at tsc in the equine isle,  but I didn't have time to see if it was for chickens or not.  I searched it on byc and I saw where it was called "sweet pdz". Is there a difference, that you know of?
No out it's the same thing. Never used it before in the runs but used it in horse stalls. I'm not sure of safety for chickens. I'll go look, I'm here anyways!

I'm bringing true Araucana cockerels and roos, including the boy in my avatar.. Unfortunately, I have no pullets left this summer.

Why is it that the roos always survive??

I have lost a couple of roos to predators, but mostly they get my hens!! I guess I'm assuming you lost your pullets somehow. It seems like everyone has an abundance of cockerels and roos!

I just sent 7 to have processed last week. I kept 2 and will be getting 2 more at the swap from loveourbirds. That's plenty for me! I had purchased buckeyes this spring, split 12 with a friend, and ended up with 5 cockerels and 1 hen!! Out of the 3 that survived for her, she has 2 hens and 1 cockerel. Oh well, that how the egg cracks I guess!!

it says safe for humans, horses and the environment. It's a natural ammonia absorbing mineral. it helps control moisture also. Says use it for your dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and reptiles. Noon irritant to the respiratory. Looks safe to me!

THanks for looking! I just searched it on coop maintenance thread and they all rave about it. I'm going to get some I think. Our old coop that we moved here when some one gave it to us, has such a strong odor and until recently only had 3 little porcelains in it! Especially when it is damp out. I will head to tsc this afternoon. Thanks again!

No, it's not that I lost them, it's just that a lot of boys hatched. Of the ones hatched this year that I can determine gender, there are 8 boys and 5 girls. I put the first brood up for sale and the two girls went right away of course. I need to keep the three girls I have left. So now I'm left with 6 young cockerels and a roo to sell. They can be used to start an Easter egg flock if nothing else!

Nope! I use DE {diatomaceous earth (food grade)}. I use the deep litter method in the coop, shaving. Then everytime I add more shavings {maybe once a month} I sprinkle a good bunch {like a quart or more} of DE on it and gently rake it in. Use a mask while doing this. The DE can irritate your lungs.

I buy mine at TSC. Red Lake brand.

When did you work there? My niece worked there for a couple of years. PT.  I know Bill the manager very well.  He is a friend of my sons. What is your name? It's such a small world!
transferred into that store October 2009 and transferred out of it in July 2010. Mandy
