OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Seems like an inappropriate time, but I wanted to update on the lice fiasco before I forget. I checked on every bird this morning when I let them out before my trip to TSC to make sure I hadn't lost anymore overnight to the bugs or the flea spray. I couldn't find a single bug anywhere! So that off-brand (wasn't even Adams after all) flea spray did the trick! Easiest infestation ever! I got some sevin dust anyways, just in case, and to do again in a couple weeks when any nit eggs hatch, and made them up a nice wood ash dust bath. Fingers crossed they stay away and we don't have to deal with any more parasites this winter.

I'll be quarantining very carefully any new birds from Swap Days or the poultry show.

I also have a pip in my one lonely little quail egg due today!

If you're still around, thank you Brian! Only 10 of my shipped 32, due Saturday or Sunday, are looking somewhat..maybe alive.., so I'm so hoping this little guy makes it!

That's awesome ShayBaby! I'm so happy you got rid of the bugs! and I'll be crossing my fingers with you too for mine!

Don't have any and definitely don't want any! Will you be at the Delaware swap this Sunday?

Yes! Fingers crossed for everyone here! :fl And nope, sadly I'll have to miss the Delaware swap as DH won't let me travel that far (it's only 2 hours..pshh..:smack..), but at least I have the big poultry show down here to go to instead. Wish I could make it up to meet everyone I haven't yet (and their lovely birds )!!

Speaking of the Delaware swap. I was over that way a couple of days ago. Just a FYI. Those of you coming from I71 to Delaware, the feed store is on the left right beside an overhead train track. It is really easy to miss the store because you cannot see it until you are right in front of it. If you get to the traffic light (Davidson rd or maybe lane) you passed it. The next traffic light after that one is the entrance to Meijers and Kohls. Hope to see a lot of you there on Sunday. Jane

Thanks Jane! I will definitely pay attention! Hope to see all of you there!

Doubt anyone would want to drive down this way, but thought I'd post here anyways, since I'm not going to the swap. I have a couple of Mille fleur d'uccles I'm letting go of if anyone wants them. I'm not positive but I think they're both pullets. 3 months old. Cutest little things, and a breed I was really hoping to continue with, but skittish as all get-out (which is fine in itself) and one keeps sneaking out of my run. I'd rather let them go than see the dogs get it or something, and I'd rather offer to you lovely folks here rather than Craigslist hooligans.
Don't have good pics of them yet, but I could get some tonight or tomorrow.

If nobody wants them that's fine. :)

I need to ask a strange question. I have 2 Black Astrops, RIR and 3 Barred Rocks I got at the same time, 6 weeks old around April of this year. MY RIR has been laying for a good month now steady as can be. I have one Bared Rock that just started within the past 2 weeks. One of my Black Astrops I had issues back in June and had to nurse her back, but healthy now. Early Sept they were laying or they at least laid a few times. The past few weeks nothing. Is it just the weather that could be changing?

I'm curious, too. My oldest gals (EE and Barred Rock) are 7-8 months old now. The next oldest are just a bit younger, 6-7 months. I've yet to get a single egg out of anybody. I was thinking after the lice fiasco that maybe they just didn't feel well enough to lay, but now I'm thinking bad weather timing has something to do with it..

My 2 year old hens have slowed down a little with the days getting shorter. Plus i know my older birds are molting everywhere. I wouldn't worry about it. You should see eggs soon again.

Too cute! I am on day 21 now on my Rhodbar Eggs but only hear one chirping? Starting to think my temperature gage is wrong in the incubator, or this batch just don't want to come out :hmm

Yeah, I just realized the other day my temp has crept in my bator and is decidedly too low -- by a degree or more. AUGH! Explains why my last hatch didn't go as well as usual. After this batch hatches and is out, I need to shut down, clean and recalibrate.

Hi everybody!!! Sorry I've not been on much. I'm looking forward to Sunday! :)
