OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Could my fellow Ohioan's please tell me if you worm your chickens never, 1x year, 2 x year? What do you use if you do? My flock is almost a year old now and I have chicks in the brooder. I have seen no evidence or symptoms of worms. I am just not sure what to do. What is your experience? Thank you in advance for your suggestions

Anyone interested in a chocolate English orp pullet? 8 or 9 months old. Oversize bantam and too small for true large fowl even though she is a big bird.

Not sure about the Lima one, but Mt Hope is good. Most of the poultry will go Fri of this one.http://www.mthopeauction.com/sale/mid-ohio-alternative-animal-and-bird-sale/2015/03/26

Then there's the swap meet as well.

Both of these are 3 times per year, plus they have a weekly livestock & poultry auction on Wednesdays. I'll be headed there tomorrow for goats.

I've often threatened to go to Mt. Hope. but have never done so, probably has something to do with the 3+ hour drive time. How are the prices at the auction, do good birds bring decent money ?

Do you have to have crate/cage that go with birds after auction ?

We've never wormed. The only things we've seen are lice on ours. Ours are also all free range and we have so many im not sure how we would worm, to be honest. I've researched it and am not comfortable with all the off label stuff. They have wormer over in the UK that is supposed to work well, but we can't get it here of course.

I went today. My son got $75 out of the 6 geese he took. We bought 2 pigs, 30# for $35, 70# for $55. Ran out of time waiting on the goats we actually went for because they took almost 6 hrs to get all the cattle sold. There were a ton of them. I had to get home for the kids. Gonna try again next week & take more geese.

Take cages with you for the Wednesday auction & the swap meet. All poultry has to have a cage to sell with it for the Alternative sale, but I would still take some large crates.

Not sure how else to get a shout out to fellow Ohio folks, so I appologize if I'm posting this totally in the wrong place....

I have a long shot request -- We are getting our first flock, and my son has his heart set on a Blue Copper Marans. --- (I know. I know). They seem like lovely birds, and I'm keen to have one, However...the problem, you've probably already guessed is... none of the hatcheries that offer Blues, have any available in the forseeable future. (What's up with THAT?!)

So on a wing (ha!) and a prayer, I'm sending this request -- any Ohio Chicken lovers on here have any Blue Copper Maran chicks for sale? -- Or know of anyone in Ohio that does?

You could check with Sunnyside Up Micro-Farm in Valley City. They breed French Blue Copper Marans. However you probably won't be able to get a sexed female chick from them. They do either hatching eggs, straight run chicks or juveniles (often in pairs or trios but occasionally they have single pullets at shows). http://www.sunnysideupmicrofarm.com/index.html

I have a young roo if you are interested in him. He was last summer's baby, so not a year old yet & very friendly.
