Two weeks ago, at a family get-together, we had to call a truce, since we have folks who are state employees, teachers, etc, and private sector employees.
I remember pre-union days for public sector workers. Yes, the wages and benefits were lower, but you more or less had job security. Then post-union, you kept the job security, got better benefits, and guaranteed pay raises - and anyone challenging that got the mud thrown at them. At the same time, those of us in the private sector have gone from job to job, via layoffs or moving up/down, and basically took career risks to move ahead.
Pre-SB 5, the State handled the collection of union dues and then wrote the unions a big check in one shot. Does anyone think the union bosses want the employees to have to write them a check every month?
Deerman, yes, its up for a vote, but there are so many half-truths being flung about the real issues are muddled. In my own corner of the world, the nonsense being thrown around is crazy. I tried to read the SB 5 bill, but couldn't get through it all. People I've talked to have only gotten their union-supplied talking points sheet for their facts.
