reviewum.net is where I host the software that runs the cool BYC Premium Sponsor ads at the top right of the pages. I use a free program called OpenX.

www.reviewum.com was the first website I created and I had the .net domain available so I put the ad server there.

If the forum is slowing down, definitely let me know. There are a zillion factors that could make a browsing experience slow. 20% of the time they are on the user's side. 50% of the time they are on my server / network side, and 30% of the time it is just problems in the ether we call "the internet".

Keep me posted if you continue to experience slowdowns and I'll keep an eye on it.

I too noticed a big slowdown several times over the last few days. Seem like it was happening between 4 and 6 p.m. the last 2 days. I just chalked it up to busy servers.

Clear your Cache since a full cache can also cause big slow-downs.

I use Spybot and the Zone Alarm firewall.

I use AVG, I find it's very effective, and doesn't leave the same ~trails~ as spybot & adaware. My computer guy says that those programs are a form of spy-ware themselves. I don't know about that, but I do know that they use a LOT of CPU *space*, or whatever it's called. Also, they are always running in the background, where-as AVG scans & stuff, but is not constantly slowing down your other running programs.

On the slow-down note ~ I also have noticed BYC taking longer to bring up posts, and also chalked it up to the time of day, even though I have DSL, which should be traffic-issues free.

That is the AVG free download from c-net. They have other more advanced programs that have bells, whistles, and even cook dinner, but the basic one is very effective, & it's free.
Hope that helps ~

What is the Cache please?......oh dear still not fully up to speed with comp lingo......doh.....

I use Firefox. I have it set to "clear all personal data" each time I close the browser.

in Internet Explorer, go to Tools >Internet Options> General.

Under "Browsing history", click the "Delete" button to see all the different caches. To clear any of them, click "Delete" next to the name.

Open "Settings" and you can specify how long you want to keep temporary internet files.

A "cache" is the short-term memory on your comp that's filled with info downloaded from the internet. It'll include images on the websites, text, and other info that helps your comp function quickly. Over time, though, it can bog down your computer.

I just found out that Microsoft.com has a free anit-spyware for registered users. It's called "Defender" and can be downloaded for free at office.microsoft.com (search for "Defender").
