Ok, folks, Unveiling The Ameraucana Breeding Coop(Added Pics)

Thanks, all. Deb, same here. He went into the Air Force six months after we married, retired in 94 in his early 40's, then worked about 9 years for a technology company. We "declared voluntary poverty" in 2002 when we bought this place so he could quit-his back is really bad, in spite of building these things all the time. And I'm don't think I could convince him to get a goat unless we actually bought a real farm, rather than this vacation home in the woods.
Now, we'll continue working on the coop if the dang rain ever stops. At midnight the forecast said partly sunny up till 5 p.m. I woke to thunderstorms and they're still going on hours later. Good thing we covered the coop with 6 mil plastic. The paint wasn't completely cured yet.

speckled hen...

can you see your coops from your house or are they quite a ways from your house?

Just curious!

Looks great, my pops is going to build me a small finch aviary like that. My DH is burnt out building chickens coops and goat sheds with me! HA!

Some of you people make me sick! :mad:

Seriously, that is VERY nice.

I wish I could build something like it!

Love the Coop!

Ihave a breeding question!
I also have Americana's (they grew tails so I guess they are not Araucana

)

I wanted to get an Americana Roo to hatch a few each year out of my flock but read somewhere that it is hard to breed them & 20% of their chicks die is that true? (I don't really care about them having the tuff's or what ever characteristics they have)

Thanks, everyone. Tiff, the first coop I built was 70 ft or so from the house. I can see all three coops from my kitchen and master bedroom windows. The shed we retrofitted part of as another coop is maybe 55 ft from the house and I think you can see the main coop from one of the pics of the little coop I posted so you know I can see that little beauty. I also have a baby monitor in the main coop so I can hear the goings-on in there.
Rchicks, I never heard that so I have no idea where it came from. I've never had an Ameraucana broody-these were hatched from a friend's eggs that she shipped all the way from California to Georgia-five of the six hatched. Maybe someone can comment on what you heard/read.

RChicks, I think you are referring to the lethal gene that the tufted, rumpless Araucana carry. You don't have to worry about that with true Ameraucanas. My roo was the sire of Cyn's Ameraucanas and he was a real gem--hope you can get a big sweetie like him!

Oh, I bet Lynn's right about the lethal gene! No problems with these if that's where you got it. And her rooster was a gorgeous boy-here is his son, Scout, the sire of my future Ameraucana chicks.
