Ok. I'm a weird chicken keeper.

I dont show, I don't want to bring anything home and have them get sick, or worse. The other thing is that they aren't show quality, but even if they were, I wouldn't for the reason stated above. They are pets, first and foremost, eggs are just an appreciated gift, not an expectation.

That doesn't phase me one bit, both of our hens are indoor birds. ... The also have a custom harness that has changeable poop pouches built in, which is a lot more comfortable for them, and easier for us.
Now that I've exposed my level of weird , I'm going to .

OhMaGosh! There are TWO of us (at least!) Your house sounds like mine! We have two dogs, four cats (which is why I had to give up fostering kittens - too many foster-fails we couldn't give up!) and way too many tanks and bins and brooder boxes. Years ago, my father dubbed my house "The Halfway House." His logic was that, no matter how many legs a critter had or whether it wore fins, feathers, fur or human hair, we were halfway between wherever it was coming from and wherever it was headed - and it always stopped for awhile. Sometimes it was just for a little while, sometimes for the rest of its' life - sometimes both - but it was always welcome. He meant it sarcastically (with a smile,) but I wear that badge with pride. There's always room for one more!

I hadn't thought about building a pouch into the harnesses. Mine start out life as dog head-harnesses, turned upside down and with a few simple modifications. Guess I'm gonna have to find some "spare time" (hah!) so I can start redesigning!

Oh - and don't hide ... wave your banner proudly! Imagine what a boring place this world would be if we were all what the rest of the world calls "normal!"

Ha! Absolutely!!! I am a crazy, weird, obsessive, enthusiastic chicken gal through and through! Let's see:
-Vet is now among the top 3 future occupations because of the chickens
-Brought two chicks on a 14 hour car ride because we couldn't find their breed around us
-Will stop and discuss chickens with random people
-Is known even by her family as "the crazy chicken lady"
-Has overcome her qualms about hunting to exact revenge on bears
-Has convinced parents to convert yard into oversized chicken run
-One of favorite past times is sitting outside, chicken watching
-Apologizes to chickens when they get underfoot(out loud)
-Has deep, philosophical, one-sided conversations with the chickens
:love

I've cleaned out my hen house this morning, I sit and talk to my lovely girls, they come to me to see what treats they're about to get and run off clucking happily when I did worms up for them. They don't come in the house but I go into theirs, they don't mind at all. If that's weird then I'm in the weird club too.

Ain't as weird as you think. Or I am as weird as you are? I, too, had lots of 'curved' beak avians when I was growing up. As a result, I don't really consider chickens 'livestock'. And yes, I have a routine about cleaning the coops, how I clean them, and how I dispose of the waste. I like to sit with my chickens, interact with them, make them do a certain behavior to earn a reward. But dang nab it I just can't teach them how to talk!
