if the information was posted in a way where there is non identifying information there is nothing wrong with it... like... instead of using Johnny Jenson... use.. Johnny J in class 2b... or whatever...or have the child create a unique user name that you use for school and online stuff..

I am 48 years old and past the part about who knows what about me on the web and to tell the truth if someone wants to know something about me or post my picture they are really desperate for attention.

The teacher screwed up and hopefully she will take to heart that she did and not repeat it. Time will tell if there is damage. It disturbs me when school officials blow you off.

Also, this is no joke, a few years ago, when my eldest son was in third grade, I got a call from an administrater saying that there was an incident in the school bathroom involving my son. He was not in trouble, and he wasn't hurt, but it was of the utmost importance that I called her back as soon as possible.

I called her back immediately and she tells me that my son and another schoolmate had gone into the bathroom to use the facilities, and saw a grown man peering over, and through the stall doors at them. This is the bathroom directly across from the main office.

They did call the police, and the man was arrested, but she couldn't tell me much more than that besides he was a known sexual predator in the area, and that the police were taking care of him. Talk about scary....

And...

Considering that the school totally blew off the officers reccomendation/threat.... let me be the second to suggest the news!

Not for your daughter now... but for those other kids in the class/school at large... AND for all the kids in schools all over where other teachers are being just as stupid.

Nothing like profound professional embarassment to get them back in line

So glad the police went to bat for you on this! It was definitely the right thing to do! But I don't think I would leave it there. With the school thinking they are getting away with it. And I do think the teacher needs to be disciplined officially for it.

I can't exactly say what I want to about the teacher, so I'll be nice as I can, what a ##@!@#@ moron! The number of pedophiles out there should scare the he** out of all school faculty members everywhere, and they acted like it was no big deal. A friend of mine was in the third grade when she was molested less than 2 blocks from the school, while going to school. The *&$#@$%%#@ somehow got her name and called it to lure her. No you didn't over react, not at all! I would have filed child endangerment charges against the teacher, VP, and the principal ! Idiots!!!!

I would be upset as well. The teacher should have gotten permission before signing any children up for the site and even after obtaining permission, definitely should not have used their full names.

Our public libraries allow people to view porn on the computers with kids right next to them studying for school so this really does not surprise me when the schools do something seemingly out of touch with the wishes of the parents. I think they refer to it as free speech or freedom of expression. Penn State ring a bell?

Most schools have policies against this. This teacher was a blockhead, the vp was ineffectual, and the principal not proactive enough.

I think I would let the other parents in the class know what is going on. They will also make their displeasure known.

At my kid's schools, and in fact for the entire district, ANYONE entering the school must sign in, and wear a badge. Every volunteer must undergo a minimal background check. There is no unsupervised interaction with children. The kids can use school approved links, but the school doesn't use or allow computer access with full names. You must opt-in to allow your child's personal information to go out, or even photos. These rules are the norm in public schools.

Do not make a single school's error, or a single teacher's utter boneheadedness into a blanket indictment of public education. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.
